I recommend getting rid of the the bose altogether...I tried keeping the stock bose system, but had problems finding parts[i.e. amps,hu] to keep it going..I found some good deals on ebay on aftermarket amps and speakers/HU.....
I got a pioneer HU/200 watt pioneer amp/a pair of 6x9 pioneers on ebay all for under $200....

From what I understand to get new speakers and reciever and ect. you need to have the whole car re-wired i have a 92 max with the bose and all me speakers are blown im waiting to save up some money to get all new speakers and to have it re-wired, at a local shop they wanted like 200 to re-wire

I replaced the wires in the front, but I just bypassed the rear amps and used the wiring and left the Bose bracket, since it was already designed for 6x9s. I just have some old Infinity Reference 6x9s in the back for rear fill.
The front I actually wired from the trunk (where the amp is) back up to the doors.
Decent speaker wire really isn't that expensive, it's just very time consuming. If you want to do an entire system, I suggest saving up until you can get all the right wiring so you don't have to take everything apart more than once.

man that is some kind of ground problem. especially if the whining increases with the speed of the engine. That seems like a problem with the factory wiring to me. so I dunno if there is a quick fix for you. anyways best way to do sound systems is to do it yourself re-wiring the car will take like 3 hours of your time. and as Cliff Clavin says decent speaker wire is very cheap.
I would keep the bose lol my bose speakers are 16 years old and the amps are blown but I found some one ebay for like 9.95 speaker and amp. and I got a 1997 Maxima bose head unit and put it in my 1989 Maxima so now everything works nicely.
