The dealer told me there has been no real change in the internal characteristics of the filter. It supposedly is just pre-lubed now.

I used one on my last oil change last weekend, I was pleasently suprised to find the pre-lube. Nice touch. The filter itself seemed really small in comp. to the K&N I took off. Also the base was narrower. I almost expected it not to fit, but not only did it, but it totally cured my VTC clacking. So worth the purchase.

thats not true. the toyota dealer by me told me the same thing, that must be what toyota is telling there employees. the filter element is totally different. the 90915-YZZA2 filter element is MUCH better than the new 90915-YZZF2 filter.

The filtration might not be as good, but it still solves the VTC issue. Either way, still good for the $$ IMO

the only difference between the models is the threading and the amount of oil it holds. they use the same style filter element in there oil filters.

Ok kids, there's been alot of crap said about the Toyota filter part# change, so it's time to crack the BS whip. First off, see my sig?...see it? I've been staring at those damn filters for the better part of 5 years.
So here's the real deal. The F2 is a perfectly good filter, it's NOT lower quality. Toyota is constantly searching for ways to improve everything, even oil filters. The concept is termed "Kaizen", means continuous improvement, look it up.
What they did was probably found a way to save some money by having them made in Thailand, and they probably found a new parts source for the media, that is of the same quality, but lower price. And they probably tweaked the internal flow characteristics as well. Also the grease on the seal eases installation and removal, and prevents ot from sticking to the block, thus preventing accidental double-gasketing. Remember, they are runing a business here. (BIG business)
Besides, Toyota has too much at stake with their rep. to put out sh!tty oil filters that would ruin engines. I mean a rep. for quality is how they've owned the market.

Ok next, Maximaboi, your pix are INCORRECT and MISLEADING. Those are NOT pix of an A1 or F2 filter (or 'tall-small' as we call 'em) You are showing us pix of an orange, and we are talkin' apples here. The one filter on the left is a V8 filter, or a 'tall-big' filter as we call it. The other one on the right is just a 'big' filter...fits fwd V6's, old 22-RE 4cyl's, 2002 and back rwd V6's, etc. The 'V8' filter fits um...V8's, the new 1GR-FE 4.0L, old Land Cruisers, and it can cross over to any app. for a 'big' filter. That's probably what he's trying to do with his supra.
Also the V8 filter has a red seal on it. Only 2 kinds have the red seal: Ones sold by Lexus for way too much $, and the oil filters installed at the factory on Toyotas. That's it, all other filters sold by 'Toyota' have the black seal.

toyota is not leading with this filter design, they are following. I have worked in oil change shops for a long time and I know what oil filters look like. the filter design in the F2 is NOT as good as in the A2. I dont care what toyota tells you. they told the people at the local dealer here that NOTHING ON THE FILTER HAS CHANGED just the part number because it was made at a different plant, we all that that is WRONG!

this filter element is the same style filter element that wix uses on all of its filters and if you know anything about oil filters then you know that wix makes 90% of the aftermarket oil filters. you also know that wix quality is pretty crappy compared to an OEM filter. wix changed the design of one filter and sent it to our oil shop. we used it that morning on a 18 passenger dodge van and then on a few other vans during the day. before we closed we got a call from the guy in the dodge van saying that his filter blew off. I put that filter on the van and I knew that I had put it on tight. we come to find out that wix made the lip of where you thread the filter on stick out to far. the gasket would just slightly touch the mounting plate when the filter was on as tight as it could be. wix recalled ALL of the filters and it ended up costing them thousands of $$ because it ended up locking up engines and it was a design flaw so wix had to pay for a new engine. now thats quality.

I have a F2 and an A2 and I will cut them open today and take pics. bottom like is this filter element is not as good. do you think toyota is going to tell you that they found this new design and it is cheaper to make but the quality of it is not as good? no they will tell you that "ooh were so good that we found a new filter design that is better and cheaper to make than the model that we are using now"

The important thing here is to make sure
the new filter is doing as well as the old one was,
or better. Have your F2/A2 been used yet, maximaboi?
Would be interesting to see which one worked better.

yes both filters have been used. I am going to have to go out and buy a hack saw to cut the filters open. someone took mine.

btw I thought I had a F2 filter but its a F1, the only difference between them is that the F1 holds 1/10th of a quart more.
