Which is the best air filter to use?

I also plan to change the old Fram air filter that I have on now and I don't know what to get as I don't plan to get another Fram..any suggestions?

Thanks. Btw, I got Mobil 1 at Costco today for my oil change soon..what to see if there's any difference from Castrol.

If you are not looking for performance then any of the panel filters will do fine...

Lots of contradicting issues:
- air flow restriction
- capability to catch harmful particles
- filter material brittleness
- how fast gets blocked
...so what do u want???

My feelin was that Fram was superior to Nissan -filter. Engine gets more air, and VG is very sensitive. Is Fram then better if it lets more soot through??? (Does it?)

It is said that bad filter material gets loose and burns into MAF resistors, cause of failure. Could be, who can verify if this is urban legend...

Overall, Filterin is Fairly complicated multifaced issue if one tries to dive into micron fact level, beyond feelins...

Nissan paper panel.

K&N panel in my VG/Auto caused random dips in the idle for some reason.

Car had three other intakes on it over the years, PR CAI, Pop and Unifilter Rampod. None of those affected idle at all, only the K&N panel in the stock airbox. Put it in, idle would fluctuate slightly, take it out, idle was rock solid. Funked if I know why.

Tons of info in the stickies at the top of the forum main page,but.... y-pipe, flywheel/clutch, UDP. I havent really heard too much about a CAI or WAI making too much of a differance.

based on my experience with Fram oil filters, I'd rather just not buy anything Fram at all.

If you want to stay stock go Nissan. Amsoil has a new element filter out that is supposed to be pretty nice. Napa Gold's aren't bad either.

Nissan stock air filter is the way to go. Performs much better and much longer, than crappy aftermarket. I know nothing of the cone filters though...

Like I said, anything clean and not clogged-up, just inspect with every oil change. I hope everybody is doing that, every oil change give the car a look over, helps spot stuff before it becomes a problem. Most shops/dealerships/jerky-lubes do that for you, if you have someone else change the oil.

It's surprising how many people don't give their cars a once over while they change the oil.

I normally drain it then do all my inspection work while it's draining. If it's still draining I just start cleaning . I am way too thorough with my cars but hey, that's not a bad trait

People would be surprised with some of the stuff that can happen in 3000 miles.

- dry structure properties
- moist & wet structure properties
- seals, glue, rigidity, emission (fiber brittleness) etc properties
- Airflow - new
- Airflow - used
- Capability to catch harmful particles to engine
- what else?

After market: Nissan does not mfg its own filters but buys all accoring Nissan set requirements & nissan logo. There is handful filter mfg's in the world, and surely some of their products are crap. Generally i'd boycott chIraq's products, but here I go Franco...

Wet fine nissan filter becomes easily pulp (I am not speaking while u use it, but simply testing the paper). Fram paper fabric is superior, moist has 'no effect'. This tells smtg about structural quality. For aiflow, VG is asthmatic, Fram flows better - my experience, I have not measured. For sieving particles, nissan may be better as it feels finer. My guess is, Fram lives longer. My humble opinion: at least Nissan & Fram are ok.

Also one has to see, that NISSAN may use various filtermakers products. So as we talk of -one- nissan filter, we still may speak of different products.

For the filtering, & particle emission properties one should not beleive mine or enybody elses opinion; but seek lab test results. Pls smbdy google and present here... For other properties -opinions, one must try to find best.
