i was doubtful so i decided to check. i lifted the front of the car and spun the right wheel forward, the left wheel went backwards. . . . NO LSD! unless it works differently from every other LSD i have experience with. Why did everyone say VE 5spds have them? what kind of LSD do they have if they really do? I was thinking about swapping in an older 5spd for the shorter gears, but everyone flipped and was like LSD LSD! oh well, i'm just a little disappointed.

 

If I remember correctly, there's the traditional clutch type LSD from the old days (like the ones on a select AE86 Corolla GT-S), Viscous LSD (VE Maxima), Quaife, and Torsen LSD.

Anyone knowledgeable care to explain the differences in how they function? All I can do is name them

 

VE Max's have VLSD. I don't know for sure if that front wheel test works, haven't tried it on mine yet. If it should, and yours doesn't..... got me.

Canadian 4th gen's also have LSD, as to I30touring models, or Max's that have swapped in a I30t tranny....

One for the se automatic(re4fo4v) this is in my car, i believe this is the lsd model but it's possable the other trans have it to(rl4f02a,re4f02a,re4f02v,)these are all auto trans's made for our cars but im almost possative it is not on the manual 5 speed's

 

RS5F50V should be the transmission with the Viscous LSD. RS5F50A came with an open differential.

 

 

I have a five speed 92 SE and it says I have Limited slip on the window sticker

 

If ya got a ve.....you got VSLD. PERIOD. Go to a parking lot. Rev to 4k.......Drop the clutch......go wot......park the car. Get out and look at TWO tread marks.

Not true. Kaleb and I were talking about this one night. Not sure what we got to, but I remember some VE's don't. Anyways, the reason the wheel test doesn't work is because the wheels aren't spinning fast enough for the fluid to lock them up. That would only work on a gear type LSD(Quaife, etc) I believe..

 

i stand possibly corrected. i was pretty disappointed, but i don't think i've ever caught a one legger.

 

so, do any gxe have lsd?

 

For the 3-gens, the only maximas to have LSD are the ones that came w/ the VE30DE engine. 92-94 SE maximas. If you don't have one of these, you don't have lsd in the tranny.
