Loss of Power

So today I was on my way home from school. Everything was fine while I was on the freeway then I got off the freeway, went about 3 blocks and stopped at a red light. When the light turned green and I took off, all of a sudden there was no power. It feels like its not running on all cylinders or something. Is there anything I can check to see what it is? There is a lot of vibration when I rev the engine and I accelerate. The plug wires are all on tight, thats all I've checked so far. Any ideas what it could be? Thanks in advanced.

you can start by disconnecting the plug wires one at a time to see if all cylinders are working.

I unplugged all the plug wires and all seemed to be working, how big should the drop in RPM be when they are disconnected? After driving it around a little bit to test it (probably not the best idea) I hear a sputtering sound as im accelerating. Also, in first there is a bit of a burst of power around 2,000 RPM, in second it is WEAK all the way up to 2,500 RPMs where there is a tiny burst and then weak again. Anybody know what I can check next?

Edit: Is there any way this could be related to the timing belt? I've been meaning to change it but its on my "to do when i get time" list.

Thanks.

The timing belt could have slipt and thrown off ur timing. Its not broken, cause u wouldn't even be running.

Does it go above 2500 rpm? could be a MAF problem. Run ECU codes...or try disconnecting the MAF and see what happens.

Is there any way to see if the belt did split? The engine does go over 2500 rpm, this is just where there is a little bit of a power burst. I should have mentioned, the engine does idle fine, but when i rev it there is a sputtering sound and sometimes a "click click click sound"

thanks.

Hmm, I would check timing with a timing light.

When I was having problems with my VG30ET timing was way out (more than u could adjust), so I took all the crap off to see the timing belt and aligned it like that...sure enough it was 1 tooth out

quick question, if you timing is out more than you can adjust, (mines fully adjust to like 12-13 degrees out of 15) that would automatically mean the belt is off or maybe the distributor is off a bit. And lets say it was fully adjusted to one side to get 15 degrees stock would that affect anything (being a tooth off), or it just means you cant advance it further

Could this happen all of a sudden, or would it be a slow process. Because my touble happened when i stopped at a stop light. Before that, it was perfectly fine.

I just ran the codes and got a 55 so its all good there... After listening to the engine idle for a little while, I noticed a pretty loud clicking noise that SEEMS to be coming from one of the injectors that gets louder when I rev the engine. Could this have something to do with it? could it be dumping too much fuel in? Is there any way to check to see if they're working fine?

after two years of this car and over 36,000 miles, this car is finally giving me a really frustrating problem

Finally! the problem has been fixed.... It turns out that the terminal on the distributor cap end of wire from the coil to the distributor has disconnected or broken. So with a new distributor cap and wires, I'm back and running!

I am taking mine (93 GXE) in for a tune up today 2 days ago while at a light when it changed to green and I hit the gas it started missing and shaking but after i speeded up it leveled out a bit when its low rev it shakes a lot but when i push the gas it seems to be working really hard I hope I have the same fix as yours.

sounds like injectors. But Im not sure if it started missing 2 days ago, or if you got a tuneup two days ago or??

Its plugs, wires, dis, cap, or injectors. Ill have a whole set of perfect 166K injectors forsale soon.

Loss of Power

I took it in for a tuneup since the last tuneup was done in May the guy told me to just change the wires, cap, and rotor. It did the trick the car is running like new again.
