VE Axle Replacement

I replaced my driver side axle today and I was just wondering how tight the clip on the end of the axle will hold the axle in the tranny. I thought it popped into place but I can still move the axle in and out of the transmission a couple of millimeter (very little). I know I have the correct axle and it is completely identical to the one it is replacing. Any thoughts?

You have to REALLLY WACK that axle into the tranny. Get the spines lined up strait and give it a wack

With mine (drivers side also) I had to get a friend to help me, Hold it out strait, push in on it to taek the play out of the CV joints, we then put a 2x4 against the end and uses a 5lbs sledge to get it to finnaly pop in.

oh i forogt get kinda underneath the car to see how the seal protector and where the seal runs on the axle shaft to see how far it goes in.

I thought I had the right axle too and the car wouldn't even move. There can be really small differences.

so who has some REAL GOOD pictures of the correct axles, maybe some dimensions, spline counts ETC.

I'm trying to gather data so I can make sure I'm putting the right axles up on my site.

Sorry, didn't get any pictures of the axles. But another question, should the axle fit right against the axle seal? Also, when the clip catch the axle will not move in or out anymore right?

The outside set is 29,the inside set is 31 splines..

For acurate diameters i would need a micrometer...I don't have one..
