My correct axle came from O'reilly and my correct seal came from Carquest. All were wrong from Advance. If you have the time, I think TripleG is right on. That way you know for sure the axle is the right one.

I put a pair in from CarQuest 4yrs and 75k ago, still fine and the rubber good. They were unbelievably inexpensive ($66 at the time, I think, for the ABS shafts) Don't know who actually made them then. Compared to the dealer cost, I took the gamble.

At the time, I knew better than to get stuff from Auto Zone or Advance... but Advance has improved their available vendors since then. I blindly went with Carquest. If I knew then what I know now, I'd be investigating online for the vendors available, the quality and reputation of each, and tracking down the best price. Not sure I'd have done any better than I did.

Warranties are a funny thing. For the parts I've been looking at in the last year, many of the better parts (or the ones I would trust more) actually cost more and have shorter warranties. It just depends.

For seals, just go to Nissan. Piece of mind is worth something... and you know the OEM stuff is at least gonna be right. You can replace a shaft easier than you can replace a seal, and they aren't "break the bank" items. Think about the shaft seals on the trans too.

axles will be like $65
the seals are like $5 ea
timing is a good question.
I'm working with a supplier to get it all set up and verified the correct axle.

I bought my VG axles from this place, their parts were right, but paying shipping to get them, and then return shipping for the cores is a little cost prohibitive.

Here's what I know...

O'Reilly has the correct part number for MY car (VE , Manual, Non-ABS, w/LSD) and it is 60-6010.

I bought one of these nearly 3 years ago. The inner boot tore recently (2 weeks ago), and I took it back for a refund. Then, I split the boot on the new one last week, and again took it in and got another one for free.

Cliffs: warranty replacement is VERY useful if you plan to keep the car for any extended amount of time.

For the passenger side, I went to Autozone, and they gave me the wrong part. The part for my car is a 9704, but they list a 9708, which was STILL listed wrong as of last week.

What I did here, was take my axle off, took it into the store, and matched it up against every 3rd Gen axle they had to see which one it was. I found the match, it and have been on my care for about 2-1/2 years now.

Autozone has the passenger side for my car listed as the auto.

i just went to autoblown and my buddy works there.. he had to order the axles (got both) $120 each with $60 core charge...so basically $60 each they will be in on wednesday (the 30th).... i didnt look for part numbers.. i just got what they listed...1992 axles with limited slip and ABS (all VE's have limited slip right????) the tranny didnt have a starter..($160 at autozone) so i was like f-that.... i am going back tomorrow to get the tranny out completely and hopefully be done everything by the weekend (since i work after school until 5:30 i wont be able to work on it all day)...well wish me luck...i gotta cut the y-pipe off (bolts f-ed up) and i done need the connectors right????? a couple things are in different positions.....the shifter wire is in a different position.....and it seems like the drivers front tranny mount is in a different position than mine......
