ok guys.. i finally got the tranny out....working on it at the junk yard is a b*tch....i got it out and got it home.......right now i have the tranny.....the torque converter...and i ordered new axles.....remember i have a VG tranny and i am putting a VE tranny (both automatic).......do i need the VE flywheel????? since the VE starter is different than the VG...does have different teeth????? so basically the question is that will the VG flywheel work with a VE starter?????? and what else am i missing???? i need the TCU and whel hubs/spindles right?????? anybody have a pic of the hubs/spindles....what do they look like (i have never heard of a spindle before) or will my VG hubs/spindles work with the VE axle?
well My guess is if the bolt patter is different on the the ve torque converter
you will have to use the vg torque converter......as the ve flywheel will not bolt up to the vg block.

well, the reason that no one knows is I THINK you are the first to do this, I would get the VE flexplate (propername for the "flywheel" on an auto matic, if for no reason then the ring gear. I would also get the TCU, and the wireing harnesses that plug into the transmission, and possibly the ones that plug into the tcu, but you would only need those if they are different from the vg tcu
The VE flywheel is 8 bolt and the VG is 6 bolt. A manual VE starter is the the same as both MT and AT VG starters but the AT VE starter is different. I would measure the diameter of the flexplate and count the teeth. If it is the same between the 2 flexplates then you could use the original VG flexplate provided it will the VE converter. If not, then you're stuck with using the VG converter (I don't know the difference between the 2) Frankenstein Lives!
a spindle is also known as a steering knuckle, it is pretty much where EVERYTHING comes together, the strut, the axel, the ball joints. I dont really know if there is a difference between the vg and the VE auto, i KNOW for a fact there is on the VE manual tho, so you might wanna see if you can get a VG halfshaft (at the yard) to fit in the hub of the VE auto spindls
well i atarted installing the tranny today.... the two mounts are different... the screws arent long enough...... GOD!!!!!!! does it ever end... now tomorrow autoblown will tell me the dam axles didnt come in... or ill get them home and they wont fit!
well all the other junk yards around me only had one 5 speed and it had over 280k on it... this Ve auto has only 69k so since the VE auto is stronger than the VG auto i am gonna take a gamble

Actually the ve auto is a little stronger tranny then the gxe tranny...Something to do with the valve body in it being beefier...

they still use the trans but not in the max anymore, they appear to have changed it after 03. so it appears to be capable of the VQ35DE too.
BTW torque destroys transmissions not HP

Yes you HAVE to change the axles and spindles. Fortunatly, the spindle does NOT include the strut or ball joint, but it is what ties the two together. I will scan a picture in a bit.
On the manual, you dont have to change the passenger side axle bearing, but I cant say for the auto.
I would assume the VE torque converter wont bolt up to your VG crankshaft for the same reason the VE flywheel doesnt bolt.....and it was just stated by Grace_Imports....the VG crankshaft has 6 bolts and the VE has 8.
As for the TCU, I have no idea as I havent done this with an auto, but I would assume you need the VE TCU. I do know however that you will need to take the VG harness for the speed sensor off the VG trans and solder it onto the VE trans speed sensor wires.
As for autozone axles, I garantee they will be the wrong ones (unless you ordered the axle for the VE 5-speed) Carquest had the proper ones for me.
Harvs94max- the VE uses larger bearings inside the trans, has larger axles, and most importantly... has LSD!!! Scew one tire fire!

right now i have one bolt holding it together... i need to go back to the junk yard and get the mounts and screws to hold the tranny/motor rogether... looksl ike i have to fabricate somethign up for the mounts to work.......the VG flywheel bolted right up to the VE torque converter.....
ok.. i got the mounts to work with little fabrications.....all is bolted up right now.... all i need is a starter and to install the axles/hubs....i checked the drivers side and it seemed to fit very nicely into the hub.....so maybe i am good with axles..maybe they have the right part #? but all i need is a starter and some fresh fluid for it!!!!!!! now all i gotta worry is for the tranny not to be broken

almost done!!!!!!!! everythign installed besides all the wiring.... i need a wiring diagram... anybody have one for the VG and VE auto tranny????? i need to match up thesee wires!!!!! ASAP! thanks

What do you have left to wire up? The speed sensor? You wont need a wiring diagram for this; its just two wires and they are the same color on the VG and VE.
Nice job man.
Was the car you got the tranny from wrecked? Thats something to always look for when getting parts, so you know it wasnt put in the junkyard for mechanical problems.
Didnt completely work out for me, I got my tranny out of a wrecked car and in input shaft bearing was shot.

the car looed like it had been wrecked... (had a different drivers side fender on it) and under the hood was all bent up......plus the radiator fan was held together by a piece of license plate....... also looke like it had been in a flood or ran down in a ditch (dirt all inside of car)
well i didnt get it done today.....i guess ill finish it by the week (school).....i just need to know which wire does what on the plugs... there is one plug that has two wires and the plugs for the VE has 3 wires... where would this extra wire go?????? do you know what i mean by a wiring diagram??????
