So we know I have problems with my ignition coils and I took them off today and one looks like this:


Would this indicate or cause it to be bad? I really don't have the cash to replace them all, should I start by assuming this is the bad one? I don't feel comfortable putting it back on looking like this...

 

Is That A Slice Through? Any Cuts On The Lines Are No Good. You Loose Power. Should Be Replaced.

 

I think jeff92se has some good used ones f/s....Until you get them replaced put some electrical tape around the bad one..wrap the elec. tape around it only once,if you put too much tape on it,they will not go back in the holes....

 

I have a couple of them taped up between my three cars and they work. They aren't cracked as bad as that though. I had some that were bad that were not cracked. Go figure. You can get them fairly cheap at a boneyard.

 

Yeah, tape sounds good. I just replaced the plugs... I'll throw the old coils in and see what happens.

That looks totally trashed. I don't think I would use it, even taped up. I am sure you are losing a lot of spark through that crack.

Just buy some new ones, or at least some used ones that aren't cracked. When my front one had a crack (not nearly that bad, either), mine idled rough and seemed to have a "miss" in it. I taped it up and it seemed to help, but it was even better when I put in non-cracked ones.

They cost about $60 each new if you shop around. I am sure a lot of guys will sell you a set of decent ones for a lot less than that. A couple of years back I bought a set of six from a guy that wrecked his car (no longer posts) for $60 shipped. I sold them on ebay this year for $108, though.

 

I've got new or used, which one you want?

 

actually, i just threw the old ones in on top of new plugs and she runs like a dream. We'll see how long that lasts...
