the rust recall epic

Alright, so I have the exact same problem with my car that everyone else does. The recall will take my baby away.
So I was wondering if it's possible, for nissan to cut me a cheque for the car, (since that's nissan the company, not the dealership), and for me to pay the rest (700 dollars or whatever it is) to actually have the recall fixed.
OR, Is there any way I can demand that they fix it instead of cutting me a cheque? Another thought as an option would be for them to just fix the inner lining and the fuel filler tube, and just try to sandblast the rust and leave the inner wheel well intact. That's gotta bring the labor down to way less than what it would cost for them to buy my car. Or, is there a way for them to pay me and take my car, but to take as many of the good parts as I can to put into another maxima?
I seriously have no idea how to go about this.
I'm starting to think it would be easier for me to just let them have it and try to find another maxima with the recall fixed with the money I get from the old one. It's too bad they're so freaking rare here.
what do you guys think?
here's the list of problems I've fixed/have parts for already, so I dont want to throw it to the wind if i dont have to:
1) Struts need replacing, I have the parts, just have to put them in (no refunds on them, so either way i'm stuck)
2) I replaced the entire interior, roof to floor, dash to back
3) I replaced the brakes
4) I wired it all up with the stereo
5) I am replacing the digital dash/auto a/c, and rims, (parts already on the way, and paid for, no refunds)
6) Power steering pressure hose

So essentially, I have all the parts to fix it, I just need to have the recall stuff done, and she's a beaut again.
suggestions?

youre not supposed to have to pay for the recall, nissan is. and if they buy the car from you, itll take some convincing on your part that your car is worth more than 700 bucks to them.

did you check to see if the recall has already been done?

mine was done in 94 (car was a leftover 92 sold in 93) but even now my fuel tube rusted thorguh and the rear still has to be fixed again...

Then when I stated the recall number from DOT, he danced around for a moment and talked about how the VIN reference to recalls are not state specific, even though it clearly states that it IS.

I caled one dealer and they said there was no recalls on the car and blah blah.. called a different dealership and soon as i said "recall on a 1992 maxima" he wanted my vin number and was very helpful.

Here's what I did with my 89 rust issue. I took it to a welding guy and has given my Max a brand new lease on life! welded the 2 wheelhouses along with its inner panel, the rack base (when to a junk yard and got me one from a difunct maxima), and both rear passenger seats for... $700!

I love my Maxima... is an extremely reliable engine, with a great looking design. I'll keep it for as long as I can. My next task will be to sound proof it.
