92 SE or Fix mine

I have a 91 gxe, and the rust recall has taken its toll. There is a guy down the street selling his 92 se, in IMMACULATE condition with 215000 kms (130k miles).
Should I sell mine for about 2 grand because of the rust in the trunk, and buy that or fix my wheel wells on my own and keep mine..dang french keyboard with no question marks...Forum's suggestions*question mark*

fix yours! you're better off with the devil you know than the one yet to know. if money is an issue, fixing your is far cheaper than buying his.

Well, I can probably get $3500 here for mine (easier to get higher in canada) and it would cost me at least $500 (probably much more) to fix the wheel wells, the strut towers, and the rust in the trunk. Also, the back seatbelt came off because of rust.
so NOW what do you think

well ask youself this.... do you want the VE motor??????? do you know his is mechanically fine????? does he have the same problem with the rust?????? nissan MUST fix this rust for FREE.......because it is a hazard to the people in the rear seat (seat belt failure) so what do you think now??? just make sure his dont have the same problem.......and with his you do not need to change the timing belt either (it has a chain)... make sure you ask him if he has ever had problems with the car and if anyhtign major has ever been replaced..... hope this helps....

ok, with this timing chain thing, my car now, has a belt, which is dripped on a little from the cam seal. So a timing Chain i take it, won't need to be changed...ever? Are there any other sore spots with this vehicle that you can think of that I should look for that are prone for these vehicles?

The chain should never need to be replaced.... search the forums about VTC's. They are common to go bad on the VE's

and remember the VE has 30 more horsepower and 8 more ft/lb torque.....i think the only problem the VE has is that the VTC's tick when they get old or something

timing chains do "stretch" as the link pivots wear, but it is a much slower process than belts and the tensioner assembly keeps the slack out for a long time. i don't know how long the ve chain will last, no experience.

Well the reason Nissan went to the chain was so that it wouldnt ever have to be changed. It is designed to outlast the engine.

Is craig's 'vtc noise grounding fix' a workable thing with this engine?

Kling, If I were you... and if I could get $3500 for the car - then is a no brainer.

If on the other hand, I could get no more than say $1500; I would rather invest say no more than a G and repair mines. Especially if my engine is that good and reliable. I rather not inherit somebody else's problems... Problems that may or may not add up and beyond the cost of repairing your car in the first place. That's usually what happens.

rusted wheel wells are still on my list. I'd keep it and fix it yourself.

Well I test drove it today. It doesn't feel like it's got 30 more horse than my car does. I...dont know why. What is standard shifting rpm on these? My old one's an automatic, so it's tough to gauge the 30 extra hp...

Also, the guy was a freaking smoker so..If anyone has an idea as to how to get that stank out of the car, what product to use, etc. That would be of a great help.
Thanks!
