Ok, so I'm going LSD. Does anyone know if the hubs off of a 92-94 SE AUTOMATIC will work, since my VG hubs won't. I can't find VE5 hubs locally, but there are automatic ones available...thanks.

 

its possible to make the VG hubs work, did it on my buddys VE5 swap.. you just have rebuild the outer joint useing VE axle internals and the VG end that goes into the hub.... just a thought if your up for. We did that about 30000 miles ago and his axles have been fine since. hes now pushing about 270 WHP at 9 psi on those axles so i think there plenty strong.

Also, if i had to guess id think that VE auto hubs would work, but i wouldnt know for sure.

 

auto hubs are too small. the ve5speed axle is a 1inch dia.

 

How about the starter? Will my vg5 starter work, or is the VE5 starter different, and if so, will it work with my VG fidanza?

 

VG5 starter = VE5 starter
VE flywheel > VG Flywheel but you have to use the one for the motor, they aren't interchangeable

 

The Ve Flywheel Is A Half Inch Larger Than The Vg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I Doubt It Will Work!!!!!

i actually thought of getting one custom made so it would work... when i installed my motor/tranny (VG motor/VE tranny) the starter didnt touch the flywheel..... but they also monted in different places.. so i dont know

 

ok, the axle mod idea is great, did my swap that way 5 years ago before i even found this place. still have the same axles.

My VG flywheel + VE trans + VG starter setup works fine. oh and i have an stillen aluminum flywheel.

 

I guess you know whats going here. I'm gonna assume that it will be easy to do a ve5 swap on my 91 auto. peace out, I'm tired....

 

Oh snap, my bad, yer doing an auto/Vg to VE5 trans swap, my bad. never mind.

 

a couple of differences are this... you will need the mounts for the VE5 because they are different than the auto. You will actually need to buy a VG flywheel because the auto uses a flexplate (I realize you probably already know that). Also there is a bushing in the end of the crank on a VE auto (I assume its is on the VG as well) that will need to be removed and a thrust bearing inserted.

other than that the rest should be fine.

Let me be as clear as possible
the VG (both auto and stick) and the VE5 use the same exact starter
the VE A/T uses a totally different and incompatible starter
the flywheel on a VG has 6 bolt holes to the crank
the flywheel on a VE has 8 bolt holes to the crank

The flywheel HAS to match the motor, the trans you are using doesn't matter.

If you have a VG motor with a VG 5speed you use the the VG flywheel
if you have a VG motor with a VE 5speed you use the the VG flywheel
if you have a VE motor with a VE 5speed you use the the VE flywheel
if you have a VE motor with a VG 5speed you use the the VE flywheel

ALL 3rd gen maximas with a manual transmission use the same starter

 

I'dd say thats pretty clear. the only things I need to buy are: a ve 5 speed tranny and obvious hardware(clutch m/c, s/c, hydraulic lines, clutch pedal, brake pedal, mounting brakets, and, if I can manage, the f20 harness), vg flywheel, vg clutch, and ve 5spd axles, and I can just rebuild those with the outer ends of my VG axles. YIPPEE!!!! for some reason my laptop crashed this morning, so I'm not gonna be browsing so much. I am, however going to go check on the status of those axles and other parts at the junk yard before I have to go to work. thanks for the info guys. I might just have to do a writeup so others can see how easy it was. thanks again.

Cool, thanks. Now, anyone know where I can get a passenger side VE5 axle. Oreilly's said that it was on backorder, and the only place that had them would ship them for 75 and sell them for 60+core.

Anyone know how to take the spindles out of the hub? I've taken some stuff out, but I recall hearing that a press is needed. I don't have a press, but I do have a puller...

 

just do it the easy way and change the hubs!

Yes you have a VG.
Yes you have a VG Flywheel.
Yes you have a VE Transmission.
Yes you have a VE Starter. This is in fact nothing amazing because THE STARTERS ARE THE SAME.

Seems pretty clear to me.

 

I only have the spindles though....

 

i have a set of VE hubs... but one is for ABS the other isnt.. and the one has a broken stud........ but it can be yours for cheap... both will work if you dont have ABS

i know that the VLSD has a bigger axle diameter than the non VLSD.... so i would think they are the same size.... the automatic axles seem to be 1"
