starting problems

For the past couple months I have had starting problems. It started to only happen after I let the car sit for a couple of days. After it wouldn't start I would put a can of heet in it and wait then it would start-up like normal. Two weeks ago same problem I had the car towed and the auto shop couldn't find anything wrong with it. It started for them. Last week I left the car park for a day and half, now it won't start at all. I tried jumping it and it won't crank. It clicks though. OH yeah I had a new att installed three weeks ago. After trying to start it the lights go dim and the clock resets itself. Any suggestions on what this can be? Could it be my batt, starter, or new att.

I would check the cable connections and grounds first. Get a good charge on the battery and have it tested. Also make sure there isn't a parasitic drain on the battery when the car is parked. If all that checks out the get the starter tested.

I had similar problems with a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I replaced the battery, the alternator, all the belts, and the **** thing still died. Found out that it was a little $2 battery terminal that was bad. Check the battery terminals and make sure they are working. Save you lots of time and energy and money. I'm still kicking myself for all the unnecessary time and money I spent on that thing.

It was a bad battery. I took it out and had it tested and it tested bad. I just replaced the battery and the car still won't start. It acts as if it wants to but it doesn't. This time everything stays charged. Any suggestions? Was there anything else I was supposed to do after putting a new battery in?

I would check for spark and fuel first.

if it just clicks and doesn't crank then:
make sure u have the proper voltage at the battery (and that it's the right # of CCA's)
make sure the alternator is charging properly
check the starter

if it cranks but doesn't turn over then
might still be a batt/alternator issue but u should be able to rule that out by how robust ur cranking is
look to fuel delivery or ignition concerns...

does adding heet start it up everytime?
