Grinding noise at 1300-2000rpm range

heya, i was wondering what would make that noise,

its basically a grinding noise i hear when im on idle stopped at a light or something, and its periodic, so it 'grinds' every second or so. its coming from the engine i think, i can slightly feel it on the pedal too. so when i accelerate from 0, it grinds at about 1300 until about 1900 rpm then stops. car runs okay even while it grinds. when on PARK, it has a periodic grind noise too, then when i accelerate in the engine bay using the throttle cable i hear the grinding noise coming from the left side of the engine.

anyone have any ideas to what could it be?

thnx

yeah, could be the trans. too...

a long screwdiver or prybar makes an excellent s***hiscope, just put the tip on the part you want to listen to and put your ear onto the handle.
