not trying to be mean, but I think most 16 year old cars with bad trannies are worth less than $1k for sure. I am thinking maybe the $500-$750 range. If someone offered you more than that, I would take it. I suppose if it has less than 100k miles and everything is nearly perfect, you might be able to get more.

Keep in mind, having a transmission rebuild is well over $1k and a junkyard tranny has no guarantees and would probably cost almost $1k with labor.

Good luck

a 90 max with a bad tranny is worth $200 IF it's in perfect shape otherwise.
and that is especially true up in new england.

I paid $300 for my 90 with a blown auto. It was in perfect shape too. cept the rear tires were slashed and some of the exaust was rusted out.

I have 2 good auto trannys I can sell to you, for $150 each. I could help you install them for a very small fee too. That is if I came to drop off the tranny. PM me if your interested.

We should, for the most part, ignore the guy who buys running VE 5-speeds for <$1k

I sold my 88 Celica with a blown motor and 260k+ miles for $500. It sold in a couple of days, too.

I turn them down when they are that pricey.

I try to stay sub $500 on my cars.

1st max = free
2nd max = $200
3rd max = $50
4th max= not yet purchased

Speaking of beater cars, I wrecked my Cherokee today. And I spent all weekend doing maintenance on it. Good news is a buddy of mine wants to trade his 90 celica 5-speed with a bad water pump for it. He wants a bush bomber and I need transportation so I can work on the Maxima. Oh well, at LEAST it wasn't my Maxima...

Yes, this is a perfect pick up line for young Alex.

now if she was only into doin' a 5-spd swap to keep her car goin' just like us then she would either keep it or let it go.

cars worth about 300-500 i live in jersey. however in a run down town like irvington your gettin like 200-400 if your lucky. the key here is sell her on the internet if you get anything close to 500 take it and run as far as you can. you may even get more if you sell the car as a running parts car.

sorry alex, i don't want to get arrested.

i don't want to do a tranny swap. i have an 88 celica and a 91 maxima that i want to focus on right now.

ok, i've made my decision. i think i'm going to let him go for $500.
a guy offered me $800 but he lives on the west coast (maybe it was just a pick up line)

i know some one who just payed 600 for one with a busted trans and it needed body work so if yours is in good shape you should have no problem with the 500-750 price.

if you specify that your car is a male instead of a female, does that mean you're gay?

jk

anyway, i bought my loaded black 91 auto w/183k for $500. only issues are a bad injector and motor mount. and a couple dings on the bod.

Naw I doubt either would do over 106. OD here would probably blow his cheap tires up that arent rated for more then 85mph and Vans tranny would run out of fluid.

Just kidding van, Ive been 132 in my VG-5 and I know I could do more. though if your both autos you'd destroy him. Plus hes probably over weight with extra paint anyway...

Alex,

I don't suppose you have any extra engine lying around to go with those 2 transmissions, do you? I just picked up a 91 that had the timing belt break on it. I live about an hour and a half from you, and could use your help on the install as well. Btw, this isn't a pick up line. However if you do a good job, you can take my wife with you. Hell if you do a bad job, you can take her with you.
