92 SE or 92 SE lol

Well guys, here's the deal.
There's a 92 SE here in town, dude's asking 4k (3k us?). I've driven it, awesome condition.
There's a 92 SE with 20 more km's (uh...1200 more miles?) on it, for $500 on the other side of the country. My brother does live out there very close, and he could have a look at it, but I would have to get it saftied here in my province.
I know the one here has been kept up almost top notch, 210k kms', the one there I of course have no idea, but it's 3500 cheaper lol
Which one should I get?
oh yah, and there is a lot of salt there compared to almost none here. That would make a difference too.

are either manual or auto? may be just as well to buy them both if you want a parts car for the better one; either way, its $4500 and you could always sell the 500 if its a junker to someone needing disposable transportation from a good car.

Bottom line, you get what you pay for. My guess is that the car on the other side of the country is a piece of crap for $500. Why is he selling it for that low price? Will your brother be verifying it's condition?

I'd hit the $500 one.
unless the motor or trans is shot you'll probably come out ahead even with fixing everything

Third gens and alot of salt are a bad combination. Third gens have a huge rust recall So the only way to verufy the condition of the rust is to pull the back seat out, check entire side of the rear wells inside and outside, and open the fuel latch and check for rust. IMO get the car you have test driven as the other one may look good but be total garbage. That is unless the owner is some senile old lady that has no use for it.

stick to the one closest to you. By the time you went and got the other one or paid to have it shipped it will cost you a lot more than $500. My guess is its really rusted or has other problems.

Like Candiman said...you get what you pay for most of the time.

update

Update: Turns out the tensioner went on the car. the guy was in idle, and it just died.
Lots of internal damage on something like that, or is that not a big deal?

sounds fishy. If he knows the tensioner went he should know which one.

Here is my guess because I have seen it (look for a post from the day before of mine)...the VTC broke and trashed the valves. Or if he is right the tensioner broke...still trashed the valves.

Leave it alone unless you have another motor to go in it. It is not worth it imo...you will spend pretty close to what the other one is going for...especially if you pay to have the work done.

For real, I know the $500 one sounds tempting but you're probably asking for trouble. Best bet, deal with the $4000 owner, haggle then haggle some more, show him cash, if he bites haggle one more time for good measure, and hopefully you'll walk away a me Max owner.

If it was me here in the states of course I'd go for the $500 one cause well A, I can fix it regardless of the problem and B, it would give me an excuse to boost the hell out of it. Then again it's your money man so only you can do as you see fit.
