The reason why I ask this is because Alex V is coming over to Chicago on the 20th and he's bringing all his struts and assembly for the rear off his 89 to convert my 93 GXE to rear disc, I also plan on gettin new rotors or calipers for it if they're all worn out but I noticed that they're different from 89 to 93..will I be having little teenie weenie calipers in the back? or are they about the same as the front ones?

yeah youll notice almost all cars have smaller rear brakes as they dont do as much of the stopping. but check out a jag or a porsche and youll see big rear brakes as well.

so the 89-91 rear calipers are the same size as 92-94 rear calipers? I'm referring to SE calipers.

so you guys with the rear disc suggest using your parking brake when you park the car everytime to prevent them from rusting/freezing since they arent used as much as the front ones are?

that's the theory.
not sure how valid it is.
just lube up the sliders at the beginning of every winter and you should be fine.

I still have to fix this new ones sliders I can't afford to buy new calipers

OMG MAN, you have no idea what it took to get those damn slider pins out the bracket 2 weeks ago when I did my breaks for the very first time since I got the car and my first time changing brakes. and thats the front ones, I can only imagine the rear.

Thats pretty good advice somehow I didnt think about that, just simply applying caliper grease with every brake job but not winter, I'll do that. Also by the way if you sell the front/rear caliper brackets how much do they cost, IM me or PM me if you want or just simply post it back here

You dont need anything other then the disposables (disk and pad and the disk is a maybe) with my parts. I have everything. It maybe a little diffrent then the newer 3rd gen, but shouldnt really matter.

I think the only difference is in bracketing.
he can actually use your brackets with the newer caliper and it's bracket to accomplish the Z31 rear rotor conversion.

Z31 (86 turbo model) used a larger rotor than we do on the rear

so just to clarify this in one post. With the strut assembly that Alex is bringing by to convert my car to rear disc, I can convert it to z31 by purchasing a bigger caliper and/or bracket and just mounting it on directly without mods?

get the later calipers and 86 300ZX rotors.
use the bracket that's attached to the strut.

so its like this
92-94 Maxima rear calipers calipers w/bracket
1986 300zx rotors

.. so that completes a z31 conversion? if thats the way it is then it sounds simple enough.

My friend asked if having bigger rear brakes would require me getting a bigger brake master cylinder can anyone answer that?

no need for a different master.
just to be clear you need the bracket that bolys to the strut housing from an early 3rd gen and the caliper with it's bracket from a late 3rd gen

Ill take pics too when I take mine off. Plus if I get some of the work done before I drive up, we might beable to start on your disc conversion.

Oh and about the 5 speed conversion, I was saying get the 5 speed conversion for yourself, and then put your auto box on her car or in the garage for a spare for her. Not some complicated tranny-hot potato story you dreamed up

I think Z31 refers to the chassis that all early to mid '80s Z cars used. The 89-96 300ZX was on the Z32 chassis. If I remember right the 89-94 Maxima is on the J30 chassis (not to be confused with the RWD Infiniti J30 sedan), the 95-99 Maxima is on the A32 Chassis, the 00-03 on the A33 Chassis, and so on. It's a way to refer to the car as a group of model years, and to include other models on the chassis (ie, Infiniti I30, Nissan Cefiro, etc).
