VG 5sp Tranny rebuild Q:

Going to rebuild stock VG 5sp tranny. Where to go to get best peices to install a LSD and replace main shaft? Will most likely cryo treat, but tranny is whining. Figure if have to rebuild, might as well install a LSD and tough it up a bit. Any feedback is appreciated. Will VE 5sp LSD swap over into VG transmission?

as far as i've read, the vlsd can't be installed into the vg trans. it's a completely different diff - different side gears, cross, the whole nine.

y not just build up a vlsd tranny from a ve?
either way, u're gonna need new axles for the vlsd as it takes larger ones than the vg's diff

as for the i/s, it's hard enough finding places that supply gears let alone shafts. there are few chroming/metal shops that'll build up tranny shafts and then shave them down to spec...assuming ur only problems is wear and not a fracture.

ur cheapest bet is gonna be to get a core or junkyard tranny for parts.

the only lsd that would work with you trans and axles would be a quaife which isnt made anymore but you can still find them used in the $1000 range but youd be wasting alot of money if you did

Thanks for the info. I've got a VE I'm driving around now. If it came down to it, I could swap trannys and hub assemblies between VE/VG. Would downgrade the VE, but upgrade the VG. Easy enought to do though. And the VE tranny has no whine, so I'm winning there as well. Thanks again.

considering the the kinda horsepower u're probably pushing...i would at least give the max a chance with some of the more robust pieces found in the vg tranny...

nice turbo manifold btw

"Nice turbo manifold?"

I've not had the engine installed yet. Still under construction. Anticipate doing the tranny work while engine is out, then all goes back in together. Worst case scenario is that I have to do the tranny later....fear would be replacing it in its intirety at that point! We shall just have to see.
