cv axle questions.

Well my boots have cracked, and one is starting to give me signs its time to place it.

is there anywhere to buy cv axles online for cheap? Also does anyone have any advice on changing them out. Ive never done axles in a maxima before, but I have in a buddies civic, that was, pretty easy, just time consuming.
But it there a good writeup somewhere. or any advice?

You can get the axles from internetautomar here in forums. I think there is a writeup in the stickies.

i'm sure your cousin with all the turbo stuff can easily handle a axle swap no problem.

Wow.... Never even changed an axle on his own. Sounds like another fake account by Corey Blade.

You want advice? Don't fugg up your car working on it, bring it to a proffesional.

And say something else to bet permaBanned.

you could look here:

bear in mnd that i only sell NEW axles not rebuilt so the "extra" cost is offset by the lack of dealing with core returns.

awesome, those prices are not very bad either.
I have changed axles in my civic. But not in my maxima.
My cousin can do them for me yes, but there is no need to. I do all my work myself, ive just never ran into problems with axles before on my personal car.

Also, the passengerside one, the boots are fine, but the driverside is torn, should i replace just the axle that has the torn boots, or should i go ahead and replace both.

I would examine the passenger side closely, but if the boots are OK and there are no clicking or popping issues I would leave it alone.

just do em like bhunter said. Axles don't usually go bad both at the same time.
though it looks like every 130k or so they go bad. at least up here it works out that way

You need a big socket for the axle nut - IIRC it's 36mm. And make sure you've got a LONG 10 (or 12?) mm wrench to get to the bolts that hold the passenger axle to the support bearing. They're a ***** to get to.

And if you've got an automatic you'll probably need to remove the passenger side axle to gain access to the driver's side anyway. 5 spd I don't think that's the case.

Ive got a 5spd, and Ive got around 150k on my car. So im debating on replacing both. Im not sure if either have been replaced before by previous owner.
Hmm, well I guess ill just do the driverside for now, the passenger seams ok.

This is a false statement. Both axles are independent from each other when it comes to maintenance.
