Well I finaly got my max today.. and I think I need a new tranny :(

So I finaly got to go pick up my 93 Max today and drive it for the first time since the test drive. Everything was fine I picked it up a 5:00PM and it was running pretty good and I was overall impressed with it. At around 6:15 I went over to pick up a friend and when I started the car the brake light stayed on and I barely had any brakes. I figured ok I'll have to get this check. After about 15 minutes of driving my transmision starts slipping like crazy and the car smelled like burnt. I just idled to a stop sign and when I pressed the gas the car wouldn't go anywhere so I just shut it off and pushed it into a nearby driveway. I was really exited about getting this car and I'm really disapointed since I only got to have it for one and a half hours. I already called up the guy I bought it from and he's gonna bring it to his mechanic and if it needs a new tranny I'll probably tell him to keep the car and give me my money back. I'm pretty sure the tranny is shot though since when I start it if I give it gas in Drive it wont do anything but rev.

Man, that sucks gonads. If you're lucky it's just a broken hose that squirted out your transmission fluid that caused the smell and revving/ no movement due to loss of pressure. It's happened to me, unfortunately.

Had to replace a transmission on my 86 Max..I realized it was bad when I went outside to go to work and there was a big pool of tranny fluid under my damn car. Cost me about a grand to fix..then the wheel bearing went out and since i spent all my money on the tranny i didn't have enough money to fix the bearing professionally so i had to do it myself..ugh

The car had been sitting for about3 or 4 months prior to me buying it. As for a puddle I'm not quite sure I didn't notice anything. I just hope it can get fix so I can keep it.

I had the exact same problem; it would just rev in 1st gear. I drive an australian base model maxima 1990. I got my car to move when i started in P and then shifted all the way down to 1
, after like 1 minite or less of drving i could put into D and it would be fine. I took my baby to my mechanic, he replaced the automatic transmission linkage bush which costed me $5! and now the gears are nice and tight again and it shifts like a dream! You should check into that aswell. I hope it works for ya!

this is interesting and I'm definitely gonna check that. When I bought the car it wouldn't start in park, only in neutral, but the previous owner said he would bring it in to get fixed before I picked up the car and he did so. The car now starts fine but wont go anywhere. Do you guys think it could be related? The car will be going to the shop on Monday. I hope its and easy fix.
