Are you biased towards 3rd Gens?

Lets just say you drive up on two complete strangers on the side of the road in need of assistance (Both cars are nearly identical aesthetically for the purpose of this question). One is driving a 3rd gen and the other is driving lets say a 4th gen. Are you so biased that you intentionally bypass the 4th gen to go help a fellow 3rd gen owner or do the generations not really matter to you and you treat one Max like every other one?

But in general do you just think more of 3rd gens in comparison to other gens?

I've only had 4 3rd gens, so I'm not biased

I don't like the 4th gens, I do like the 5th's though. In fact I might get a '02 or '03 6 speed for the 'winter beater' next year.

I am not biased when it comes to something like that. If I can help someone in just about any car I will.

If I were given a choice between a 92-94 SE 5-speed and a 4th gen SE 5-speed with the same miles and options, I would choose the 3rd gen. I just like the body style better, but that's my personal opinion. I don't have anything against 4t gens.

I also like the look of 5th gens and agree with todamax that I would like to have a 5.5 gen 6 speed.

thats funny... its true for me. i always give people a free diagnostic and approximate cost of repair - but only because i know the maxima so well now.

so i would stop to help because i know the 3rd gen much better than the 4th gen - and yes - i think ours looks the coolest. always kind of reminded me of a delorean, in a way

Faulty question, you wouldn't see a 3rd gen broken down on the side of the road, they don't break.

to that Chris. I am not partial to any one year except to say that I am more into the model year I am driving at the time. I've personally owned a 2nd, 3rd and 4th gen. I like each for different reasons.

well it depends. If they need mechanical help I would help the 3rd gen because I know them so well and know most of the little hang ups they have. I dont know a thing about the 4th gen so I wouldnt be a whole lot of help other than the normal mechanical stuff (I dont know the little hang ups the 4th gens have).

If they need some other kind of help I would try to determine which one needed it the most and go from there.

A type of car makes no difference if someone is in distress.

I have to agree with everyone else, if the person is in need of help, I"ll help, I've helped 3rd, 4th, and 5th gen owners.

Now when it comes to actually owning a Max... that's a rheotorical question

Forced to make a choice, I would probably help the 3rd gen if only because I would be more likely to know how to fix the problem.

yeah, maybe i exagerated, i'm rebuilding my vtc's this weekend/next week, but thats after 246xxx miles so not bad, but in reality I'd have to say I'd stop for a 3rd gen just because I know more specifics about them.

I can't believe you guys are taking what Supercross said literally about which gen would you save if they were on the side of the road. Im pretty sure all hes asking is which you like better.

Personaly, I would go for the 3rd gen because one: I think the body design looks the most aggresive/coolest, and two: I like the direction more of where that gen was heading compared to the later models.

Sorry I'm bias as hell 3rd Gen or Nothing for me!! It's the body lines on the other ones that make me not like them. Where as on the 3rd gen the body lines just flow... IMO!!! I have always loved the 3rd gen max since i can remember... at least since they came out. Stock or custom they just look great!!!

This thread need to be closed for stereotypicalness immediately.

jusssstt kidding. I have to agree with most of the people. Although I'd just tell both of them to go on Maxima.org if they're too cheap to pay for their repair and would rather do it themselves than a shop. Other than that I would stop for a 3rd gen prior to a 4th gen due to my knowledge on them even though I'm not a mechanic. I'd also stop and help the 4th genner to show that my 3rd gen is STILL running and its older than his

other maximas are nice but don't have any sentimental value to me. i grew up from age 10 in a pearl 91 se5. these cars are timeless as far as looks go. interior is beautiful and made with high quality material. if your maxima is in good shape mechanically and your suspension is up to par, it should be obvious these are solid cars. the only other generation maxima i've driven in would be a 2002 i30 and to be honest did NOT feel very much different than a 3rd gen which can be yours for some measly chunk of change. 3rd gens have never been all that popular of cars, that's a good thing though. i like representing this car. funny story..a couple of weeks ago i was getting onto the freeway and as i'm heading down the ramp, a pearl 5th gen se appears in the lane i am have to merge onto, then right behind is a pearl 4th gen se. i knew i had enough time so i slam my pearl 3rd gen back to second and gun it. i got up to about 85 (in 4th probably) engine screaming as i fly past both of them and merge onto the freeway. fun stuff

I owned a 4th gen before I wrecked it, I was "financially persuaded" to get my current 3rd gen. I couldnt be happier. I think the things I miss most about my 4th gen was the color (very dark grey metallic) and the sound of the engine/exhaust. Everything else was a bit plastic. Seems like more money went into the 3rd gen.

I would help the 3rd genner out first because:
1. They are a superior car
2. I am more proficient with them
3. Less to go wrong
4. They are a superior car

Then I would go help the 4th genner and assuming he is a member, give him crap that his car broke down. If he mentions something about the 3rd gen, I would deny it was broken and tell him he has insulted me, back slapping him across the face with a glove (well, maybe not a glove, I don't use gloves except for skiing and golf).
