steering tranny question

im having a little problem with erratic steering lately. when driving 50 or so mph and up the car will sometime pull to one side ( i don't think its always the same side though). it feels like when driving a gust of wind pushes the car. i think my power steering pump is going bad because it got run dry a couple of times before i fixed the pressure hose and now it makes that groanning sound when fluid is topped off. could the pump cause such a erratic problem? my other thought was possibly the front tires are getting uneven power because the car deffinately pushes to the right when excellerating. the allignment was just done because i replaced the control arm so that shouldn't be a factor. any ideas?

You may have bad control arm bushings/and or balljoints..Could also be a alignment issue...

You need to bleed your power steering system of air bubbles...

Jack the front tires off the ground, take off the cap off the resivour, then with the car not running turn the wheel from lock to lock very quickly for a few minutes, then repeat with the car running...

thanks for your reply but the alignment was just done after i replaced the passenger side control arm. i also bled the air after replacing the pressure hose. i guess its possible that the drivers side control arm bushing is bad but is it normal for the car to pull to the pasenger side when accelerating? i wonder if there is a problem with one of the axles so that the drivers side wheel "gets more power" if you know what i mean.

Well if you have bled the air out then i would say the pump is going out...

Several things could be causing the pulling...[i.e bad tire, ball joint,loose/sloppy wheel bearing, tierod end, extreme VE POWAH..

so theoretically there should be no pulling to one side or the other when accelerating? see its not constant pulling, only when accelerating and then randomly while cruising and going through slight curves ect. that i feel a surprise wiggle like a gust of wind but i don't think thats it
