it's an auto....does that mean that nothing goes in there?

yeah, i would say nothing goes there..... i had the same plug on mine... i think it is something special for california drivers..... i think they have a special kind of emmissions thing that it plugs into... but im not 100% sure

Unless you live in California there is nothing that needs to be plugged in to that connector. It just hangs there, no purpose.
