5-Speed Swap Update

Well, the shifter assembly is in, the clutch pedal mounted and the tranny in place. I have one small concern, though. The FSM says to lube up the the throwout bearing, and clutch bearing. I neglected to to this...Is it of enough importance where I should pull the tranny and lube these parts or will it not make that much difference?

it depends on how well it was greased before you put it on the car. it doesn't need anymore than it did before you took it off of the car it came from. do you remember if it was greased or dry? did you use clutch assembly from old car or buy new? if it's used, i wouldn't stress it and just wait for it or the clutch to go out.

It's all new, non-greased parts. I guess I'll bite the bullet and pull it AGAIN!!

I would go back and do it right. It will give you peace of mind not having to worry about the car eventually spitting teeth.

by the way... huh??

the throwout bearing from the donor tranny but yeah, if it's brand new and you didn't grease it, it'll probably be loud and break easially. sucks dude..good luck. while you're at it, lube up the end of the input shaft because that's supposed to be greased as well.

Greasing the tranny right now...One other thing that bugs me, though...The Tranny brackets that hold the lower part of tranny to the motor don't line up. There are enough on the top and middle sections that do, so I don't think it's going anywhere, but is this an issue? I have never heard it discussed before...This situation also leaves a small section of the back of the rotating flywheel exposed...I'll post pics later so you can see what I mean. Experts...I'd like your 2 cents!

the other 5sp swap thread is discussing the same thing i think. there are 2 plates, they should fit up, one goes on before the other. there's 2 plates that fill the gap, you need both plates.

I didnt lube any of that stuff, but I got everything down to the clutch plate out of the junkyard. It's been over a year and no problems aside from my input shaft bearing.
