sun roof leaking?

Anytime it rains, my sun roof leaks. Just curious if anyone else has had this problem and how they fixed it. I'm thinking it's just the gasket. There is a crack in the glass, but it's really small and I don't think it's the cause. Thanks in advance for any input.

mine did the same thing, I tried to call the dealer to get seals and they informed me that my car didn't come with a sunroof 0_o I ended up solving the problem by caulking the crease up with great stuff...the sunroof is no longer operational, but that is a small price to pay for molded leather interior :-/

there has to be a better way - mine is a little loose and was going to research the issue, but now I think I've found my solution

pull-a-part...get another sunroof seal...mine does the same thing, especially whne i wash it.

what i do is close it all the way, and then hit the "close" button and raise the rear part up just enough to seal it, because the seal, in the back, isnt meshing with the roof of the car, so when i raise it up, it puts a thicker part into the crack. thus sealing the sunroof

hope that helps

I do the same as you guys - but its gotta be more than just the seal. Mine seems to be loose in the tracks - if the wind is blowing hard enough (happens quite often in Oklahoma) or if I am going fast enough, the pressure will suck the entire glass assembly up or back down.

Has anyone been able to diagnose the problem before? Or any ideas on how to diagnose it and I'll try to see what I can do with mine?

Wifey's sunroof.

My wife's car is just starting to leak also. I haven't gone to the dealer yet. The car has a factory sunroof. You say the dealer said the car did not come with a sunroof? Thast interesting because I hate sunroofs and tried to buy a Max with out a sunroof and couldn't find one that didn't have one.

on mine the tracks are broken, but the water gets drained out anyways.
I've watched the water get past my rear seal when I get my car washed

The two 3rd gens that I still have both leak a little and it seems to help by bumping them up with the switch so they are more even or a little higher than the metal surrounding them. I think on our older cars it is a combination of the seal getting older and less pliable and the mechanism being worn. My 99 doesn't leak--yet.

So the only way to fix the loose track is to get a new/less used one?

That would be my guess. I bet the parts for the track come as an assembly from the dealer. You might check to see if you can order new rollers and guides. I bet there are complete assemblies out there that have hardly be used but I don't know how you would find them. Wanted: low mileage moonroof on high mileage car.

well how about the drains in the sunroof tray theres a drain at each corner and if they clog or slow drainage it will overflow. i had quite a bit of water that came down at me as i slowed to stop it was quite refreshing.

yah..those drains work great if they're not clogged - had a body shop that couldn't figure out what was causing this sunroof to leak on a car they fixed - I told them to remove the headliner and I would be there to diagnose the problem - at first I was baffeled - then I noticed the drains and asked them if they had cleaned out the drains

they said they had blown air down the drain tubes - i asked if they had blown air thru the drain neck and low and behold, they hadn't

a quick blast of air and viola!!! no more leaking - and I thought they were supposed to be the experts.... hrmmmmm

Well I called the dealer about mine as it is leaking and they advised me that I would have to buy the glass as the seal is not ava. by its self. The glass is over 400.00... I tried to call a local glass place and they told me that they do not touch sunroofs and if it was aftermarket you would have to go back to the manufacture for the gasket.

I went thru the same thing about a year ago

- Just got the car, and was told the sunroof leaked.
- Looked for a seal, told the seal isn't sold seperately, only comes with new glass - then I was told that the seal isn't watertight anyway, that it only really seals the wind, and the problem is that my sunroof drains were prob plugged.
- had my drains reverse cleaned (from the wheel wells back). Ever since then, no leaking problems.
- but I have wind whistling problems - I should reshim the sunroof upwards, but I just raise it a bit...
