Alternator??Charging Problem

Yesterday I was in the memphis,tn area for a claims inspection. Upon leaving my last inspection I looked down at the dash and noticed my battery light and my parking brake light were on. I made sure the parking break was disengaged. However, both of the lights remained on. I drove for approx. 4 hrs. heading back to oklahoma, when the battery started to die. I pulled into a truck stop, called taxi, and bought 2 batteries from autozone just so I could make it home. I made it but had to use both batteries. I suspected my alternator was shot; but why would the parking break light be on at the exact same time? Also note that they would sometimes simutaneously flicker when driving. Could this be a shorted wire, connection, ect or do both lights normally come on with faulty alternator. Thanks

your alternator has gone bad. the brake light coming on when the alternator dies is something that happens. why nissan did it this way, i don't know.

I got my 93 GXE's alternator changed last week. It had a blown regulator resulting in an over-voltage condition. I had the same warnign lights come on... parking brake and charging system. Both went away after I got the alternator changed.

Advance Auto Parts stocks a chinese alternator branded "Worldwide" for around $75, with a $75 core charge. The local Lamb's Auto swapped it out for 1 hour's labour.

Runs like a top now! Sometime this week I need to remember to buy new headlamp bulbs...

A gXE alternator is different than a VE alternator.
the Price Varies, but a VE alternator is usually north of $100 when it comes to price

I would hope so, it is a rebuilt/reman unit which means it's still the OE case

Apparently, they are not all the same. Big price differences for remans etc..

the difference is in the internals, parts you can't see easily.
The case is ALWAYS reused, it's the other parts that are questionable.
