What kind of tranny fluid

dysfunctional: you could go to napa and grab a gallon of their gl-4 with the teal label. green and i are both using it. it's cheap and i've had no problems at all. i have driven the car very hard since filling it with the napa stuff. or you could waste $50 on that redline ripoff junk. which i'm sure someone will reccomend shortly.

I found some stuff out today on this...sorry I am bringing this thread back from the dead...
I saw that Sta-lube at NAPA and didn’t like the higher cold rating (85 instead of 75 or 80) and wasn’t sure of that brand because I had never heard of it.
I had the same problem as most on not being able to find GL4.
Here is what I found out. "MOST" GL5 lubes contain a phosphoric acid based additive. This of course eats yellow metals. Our cars have brass syncros (or something in them is brass at least) so GL5 is not recommended.
I went to about 20 stores in several cities around me (went to the cities for work) and finally found a guy in a little city that called some tech lines. He called Valvoline and they told him that Valvoline does NOT use any acidic additives in any of their line and the Valvoline GL5 will work in our transmissions.
That explains why the NAPA brand (not the Sta-lube) lube says it’s rated at GL3, 4 and 5. Unlike the Coastal brand the NAPA brand doesn’t say it’s for top off only. NAPA is just re-badged Valvoline.
Anyway that’s what I have found out and figured I would add it to this thread.

Thats assuring, I was REALLY concerned because I ran the Valvoline gl-34&5 for a short time and was debating if it did any damage.
But now running both the Valvoline and the Sta-Lube. The valvoline seamed to break down real bad. The oil gushed out when I drained it. The Sta-Lube, went in like Honey, real thick. When I recently drained the Sta-Lube, it still had a real thick consistancy after atleast 15,000 miles.
