switching gauge cluster 125 >> 145

I have a 93 gxe auto, and last night on the interstate some blonde chick in a BMW 5 series decided she wanted to see what her new car could do. During this stint, the cars pulled very evenly, and my speedo needle kept going over, I eventually barely pulled from her about the time that my needle hit the "P" in MPH on my speedo gauge, and I'm not sure what speed that is, but I was wondering if I switched out the cluster from an SE with a 145 MPH speedo, will the computer adjust to make it accurate?

it is a direct swap...the speed will be correct if you swap them. I along with many others have done this.

I am pretty sure its not computer driven but it gets its speed directly from the speed sensor.

If you were keeping up with a new 5 series in your VG auto, she either didn't know that you were racing or let you win. The speedo swaps with no problem.

well I would have thought the same thing, but her reaction towards me when I finally pulled suggested that she did know, and she didn't let me :-p, maybe the 5 series has a top speed limiter, i dunno. pretty sure people don't normally drive 130+ with somebody beside them and not know what's going on heh

i drive BMW's all day long and trust me those 5-series can pull pretty good. but it all depends on the driver of course, can't wait till the M6 comes out. as for the cluster swap, i already did this to my '93 GXE 5-speed and everything works just fine. no need to calibrate needles. just swap the cluster in from an SE and ur done. i didn't swap clusters though, i just swapped out the faces. but either way it still works fine.
