Gas Odor

Has anyone ever noticed a slight gas odor around the rear seats. It is not very strong so I'm wondering if its just me. Thanks

I could be one of the hoses from the fuel pump[located under rear seat] has sprung a leak...
Or maybe the filler neck has a rust hole in it...

Well I had an odor but I did not smell it behind the rear seats. Mine ended up being the rubber vapor tube for the gas tank running from the filler neck.

Have you removed the rear seat? If so is there any rust there? Has the rust recall been performed on your max?

That could be one reason that you smell it if you have rust through in the wheel well.

I thought the rust recall on the filler had been done. I'll remove the rear seats and check the hoses. Thanks for the advice. Wayne

tripleGmax come on we are not all the same... All I can do is look at the information that is provided. I thought that mine would be the same case as mine is an 89 but it was still in the system as it had not been done. Now if the recall has been performed on the vehicle the vin would be archived and if that is the case it takes 1 day to de archive the vin so we can see when the recall was performed.

And by the way tripleGmax your max is sweet...

I have still not gone to the dealer myself to see about my recall and what leveal it is. I don't think mine is that bad but there is just behind the seat so they might try to buy my car back but I will want them to fix it.

It's all good... I just hope that I don't get the run around at the dealer when I do go and have them look at mine. From the sounds of it I will need to have another vehicle to ride around in while they figure out what they are going to do. It had taken a lot of people a long time to get there rides fixed it seems...

Nickelrw87 I was able to dearchive your vin and it does show that the recall was performed 07/17/97 at Merchants Nissan.

Update On Gas Ordor

I think I'm getting closer to the source. I had the car backed in the driveway. I rearly do this, I was replaceing the window regulator. While working on the car I smelled gas. When I was finished I noticed a small puddle of gas under the side of the car directly below the drivers door. I have not done more investigation yet. I wonder if it is the fuel filter. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

The fuel filter is under the hood. Must be a leak in the fuel line. Does anyone know if the fuel line runs down the drivers side of the car. Wayne

Yeah they run directly under the driver door...poke your head under there with a flashlight and see where the leak is...

put your car to the on position and get under the car, dont start it , the fuel will run though the lines like that, you should be able to find out where the leek is by just looking
