Well you could make a tourniquet out of an old drive belt and rap it around the pulley and twist it till it so dam& tight then try to break the bolt loose?

Or put your extended breaker bar accross your control arm and crank the engine.

I used impact gun..sweeeeet!

Yes they are but imo,the average shade tree guy doesn't want to spend $200 for a impact gun/$200-$300 for a air compressor...

This gun cost me $65 and has taken every bolt/nut off any car /truck i have used it on without any problem...It has even taken the control arm gusset bolts out on my maxima...

Got my air compressor free (had to put new switch unit on) paid $39 for my impact gun at Lowes and it has removed every bolt I have used it on..even the axle bolts. If your going to maintain one of these older cars it is a good investment to make..

6 inch 3 arm jaw puller...dont use anything smaller and dont grip the three arms on the first lip..about halfway in one of the pulley lips is about 1/4 inch thick... use this one or you will break the pulley.

True...but you also do not need to spend $500 for a compessor and impact gun..at least a cheaper one..but you do have a valid point...

Agreed, you don't have to spend that kind of $$ if you look around for a good deal...But most peole these days want instant satisfaction=spending $500 on air gun and compressor..

I was skeptical about this electric gun when i first got it...That was 2+ years ago and it has worked great....

You need a large 2-3 jaw puller to get the pulley off there without damaging it...

i used a harmonic balancer puller which worked well. but i needed to use my impact wrench to turn the puller because itwas on so tight. btw i love my electric impact wrench. ive never come across anything that it didn't have enough torque to turn. i don't have a garage so the less stuff i have to lug around (my compressor) the better

I think internetautomart has em too, you should PM him

Air compressor - 25 bucks outside pawnshop one lucky day
50ft hose - 10
generic heavyduty impact w/sockets - 50 on craig's list

The 125psi (6 gal) porter cable has worked amazing well and you can find them used for about 50 or 60 fairly often. I like the ability to throw a grinder or impact hammer on there, though the small tank limits length of use.

You could connect an auxiliary tank to your compressor. At work we have a little 2 gallon compressor and we connected a 25 gallon tank for extra capacity. We did it this way because sometimes we need to take the compressor with us to a job site. And no we are not using it for impact wrenches or other air tools, just for air to blow dust out of equipment.

I'll have to do some searching to see how best to do it, maybe with a bypass valve to maximize the pressure for the impact or run from the big tank for the grinder. Hmmm

Once you get the bolt out, there are jack screw (bolt) holes in the crank pulley to remove it without a puller.

So is it true it has jack screw holes or not ?? That would be uber nice!!

You guys who said your pully slid right off said your seal was leaking oil on it right .................. Could anyone just pour motor oil all over the shaft and see if it will slid off..........????????

I wouldn't pour oil, I'd go to the shop and pick up a can of the latest penetrating oil. We have this stinky stuff that comes in an orange can that'll seep into anything. Let it sit for an hour (over night would be better) and then try again. When I changed the seal the pully slide right off. The pully didn't have any jack screw holes. Be sure to NOT bugger up the shaft.

There are a handful of pneumatic impact guns available today with mega torque! Ingersoll-Rand Air Impact Wrench 1/2in. Drive 625 ft.–lbs. forward; 700 ft.–lbs. reverse $289.99.
