Different MAF sensors?

Hey Guys I really need your help with this can you tell me when they changed the MAF sensor plug Because I have an 89 max and my maf has 5 prongs and it died........... and I also have a 92 maf that only has 4 prongs...!

Question:

Can I use the 4 prong maf on my 89 by running the wires to the sensor differently ?

I really hope so because new the sensor is 490.00 from dealer!!!

Thanks Guys ........................

Ok well let me bring you up to speed ....

My MAF went bad and the cars idle loped and stumbled

So I unpluged the MAF and started the car and the car ran great so I guessed the MAF was bad so I bought one from VANS (who was very prompt with shippment) When I got it I pluged it in and the car idled badly still ...

So what am I doing wrong >>>>????

Thanks

Where does the MAF plugs other end plug into It could be dirty...?/

I checked the voltages and the MAF is in spec it goes from 1.0 v to 1.4 volts at idle It also has voltage but the idle still lopes and stumbles but if I unplug the harness its like you closed your eyes and got into a different car its so smooth...

P.S.- when the cars idle stumbles the MAF sensor output goes to 1,0 v then it recovers and the voltages goes up to 1.4 v

Help..........

i KNOW that that MAF sensor is still good..... i tested it in my 1992 SE and it ran perfect....it came off of my 1991 SE....i revved the 1992 up to redline and it was fine.....there might have been a way it was damaged during transit???? but i HIGHLY doubt that.....since you have the "5 pronged plug" how does it fit with the 4 pronger????? if they have different prongs, it will not work... get pics posted, then if i have time tomorrow, ill take a pic of the MAF sensor plug that i had it plugged into....if you need to get into direct contact with me maxima man, i think i sent you my cell phone number......call me if you want....

Ok I know your cell if I need it

I don't think your sensor is bad I just am unsure if the 4 vs. 5 prong MAFs and switchable>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>....?

B.T.W. VANS was very prompt and answered all my questions before buy

I recommend him as a good person to buy parts from!!!

My car is still experincing the same idle problembs after new vac lines, cleaned IVAC and new plugs with new dizzy and button and New plug wires and new fuel filter though I dout that would effect the idle.........

I am at a loss I am frusturated and I just want her to run smooth I'ts like a tease to see the car run great with the MAF unpluged but then knowing in the back of your mind you can drive it like that because it will only rev to 2000 rpms.......... As soon as I plug the MAF back in (either VANS or my oringinal)and start the car it idles like crap .........\\

I don't know what to check next

Help

Thanks Guys
