maxima 94 won't start the first time

Today, I had problem to start my maxima, 94, auto, 180,000 miles. It won't start the first time when I turned on the key. I can hear a clear sound of click, then it stopped to reponse. I tried to push the gear shift as I used to do, but this didn't help. It seems that I need to return the key to the insert position, and turn the key again to start the car. Anybody have any idea of what is going on with my maxima? Thanks ahead.

If this is the problem, which one, reman or new do you recommend? Is it easy to replace it?

I have had a reman unit in mine for 3 yrs with no problems...Lifetime warranty on it too..

It is pretty simple if you have the right tools....

I think I found the starter, it is in front of the tranny, Too bad I don't know how to post a photo of it. One more question, do I need to release the tranny oil before remove the old starter?

Thanks MyGreenMax94

I bought a reman from O'Reilly for $99 and replaced it tonight. I have the old one tested in Autozone, it failed. Now my car starts very well. Thanks everyone for help.
