wtf

ok

thursday i finnaly got my car running

it was sitting for 5-6 months

replaced the timing chian tensioners and timing chain

got it running and it still has a loud ticking noise

what can this be??

i have noticed i have lost alot of power

and it sputters badly if the car has been running for a while

i think new coil packs would fix this

just some body tell me what i can do to get rid of the ticking noise

no its not the VTC either

thanks

could be either a knock from a spun bearing or lifter tick. Hard to tell without listening to it.

Dude I'm sorry I kinda invited myself to go through all those 70 max pics and your car looks pretty nice and clean (without the stripped hood) Love how your rims still look mint and shiny like when the max was first new. Good luck with that problem you're having.

definately sounds like a rod knock, but without standing there in person it can't be guaranteed. it could also be from the top end, but vids of the rear of the car really are pointless for a noisy motor not to mention detrimental for accurate diagnosis.

Tapety tap tap

Hard to tell from video. Was it idling ? The tap sounds too fast for rod knock if it was idling. Kinda still sounds like timing chain noise. You did release the little hooks, didn't you (sorry, had to ask, That's what gave me nightmares imagining putting all that crap back together and finding that I didn't release the hook or got the hook caught under the bolt releasing the oil pressure). Unfortunately, letting the car set for several months may has stuck something together. When I restarted mine two of the lifters were stuck and took quite a while to free up. Make sure you have proper oil pressure. I know this is rambling, but this is as coherent as I get in the morning.

I disagree with that. I am not saying for sure its a rod but I am saying I dont think its too fast for one...to me the sound is just too deep sounding to be chain. I hope I am wrong for his sake though.

fatboyslim see if you can isolate where the sound is coming from. It might be hard but get a scope or long screwdriver adn put the plastic part up to your ear and the other part on the front timing chain cover, valve covers and oil pan. That may help you narrow it down.

Just be sure not to get in the fans or belts please...no loose clothing or anything.

You can also make a half s***hescope with a 2-3 foot section of hose that you can fit into your ear (preferrably clean hose), say like fuel line or vacuum hose. Again, do this in the light when you can see rotating things like belts and pulleys.

yes

i released the hook before i but everything back on

i checked that sooo many times its crazy

im going to try and flush out the whole motor and put thick oil in it

maybe that would help a little

but this is pissing me off......

thanks

If you have a bent rod,you are going to have to rebuild the bottom end of the motor[rods/rod bearings/crank polishing or replacment/etc.]

Thicker oil wont quiet it down much if any...The only way to prevent any more engine damage is to quit driving it until it's fixed...

if it's a rod knock and you catch it early enough you can sometimes just replace the bearings and be good to go

IF it's a sticking lifter, find some lifter fix for a cheap fix.
otherwise you need lifter
coming soon to a site of mine

try some of that engine restorer since it has been sitting for a while.... maybe it is a lazy lifter that is stuck....just hope so......are you sure you put the timing chain on right????? do a compression test and make sure.... it may be of a tooth or something..
