Broken sunroof :(
Broken sunroof :(
well it was.
when I got my max the sunroof tracks were broken, but it all worked
yesterday (or was it monday?) I went to my buds yard and picked up a sunroof assembly and the Z32 wheels.
the assembly caused the premature demise of the donors interior for me to pull it out.
if you ever need to do this yourself, you do not need to pull the whole ASSembly. the rails themselves come out fairly easily once you figure it out.
Brief How-to:
1: take off plastic trim by glass (one screw then slide forward)
2: undo 8 bolts holding sunroof glass
3: remove the glass (out the top) be careful to keeo the shims handy
4: at the front of the bracket is a pin with an E-clip, take off the e-clip and push the pin out
5: then remove the E-clip from the pin that goes through the track itself.
6: Important point!!! there is a roll clip in the assembly that has to be pushed out carefully
7: do the reverse to reinstall it.
you may want to add some shims for a better fit though, I had to add a bunch on mine

yeah, I got ambitious after my window fell this morning, freaking window regulators
good thing I had a spare
.
I would have taken pics for this how to but the tracks were too greasy for me to make my camera all filthy.

i had this problem since '02 and up until last month i came across finally fixin' it. and i did the same exact thing to 1 out of 5 3rd gens in the junkyard just for me to take out the broken rails and in fact i ended up ruinin' the whole headliner in one of them until i figured it out by just undoin' the e-clips to take out the rails. luckily all this was done at the junkyard and not on my own car. took me like 45 min. to fix the damn thing and lube up all the small parts and in the end i was happy cuz i finally fixed this damn thing. it got annoyin' goin' at high speeds and lookin' at my roof just flop up and down and makin' sure that its closed correctly.
this repair is only valid if the track that the sunroof goes up and down on is CRACKED.
my tracks were broken in 2 places on both sides.
they are not sold seperately as far as I know, but the WHOLE assembly only cost me $15.
mine was so bad that I could push the sunroof up with my hand and see light out the back
BTW, the screw is a #2 philips and the nuts are a 10mm. I also used a couple of picks for the e-clip and roll pin

since you have the glass off see if the tracks move at all when you press the switch.
FWIW I bought my complete sunroof assembly for $15 at the junk yard, I just got one with a cracked glass (which I didn't need anyways)

i have not ever had problems with the sunroof mechanicly, but i lost power to the sunroof about 6 months ago, tore the whole thing apart twice and checked into the wiring extensively but still no luck. Also i do have power to the lights but not the sunroof, i swaped the entire switch and map light console with my other max that does work, but still nothing. I just cant seem to find the problem so if anyone could help it would be much apprieciated.

It is not the motor either ive swaped that one with my old max (that does work) and still nothing. do you know if there are any sensors in the actual rails and machanical parts of the sunroof?
