Gas Leak Question
Hey, guys, I have a quick question regarding a gas leak issue. Couple of days ago I filled up my gas tank, and when I got home and parked, noticed that gas was leaking(slow drip), which would go on for some time and then stop by itself. I looked at the rear tire well and it seemed to be coming somewhere from the area where you pump gas. I am assuming it is the fuel filler neck. My question is, if it is indeed the fuel filler neck, how long will it leak??? ie if tank is half-full as opposed to full, will it leak?? I am not trying to put off fixing this problem, I just want to stop the leak. Thanks in advance.

there is a recall about that. you can contact a dealership and give them your vin number to find out if it was ever fixed. if not they should do it for free. choeck this out http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....ghlight=recall

Hey...... Before you go to the dealer check to see exactly where the leak is coming from because my air vent for the gas tank was was leaking not the filler neck. There is a rubber vent hose that connects the metal vent tube from the filler neck to the metal tube that comes from the gas tank and that was leaking some gas out of it when the tank was over 3/4 full.
I got under there a replaced the hose and now it is as good as new the gas cap goes pisssssssss when I open it now to because presure is holding in the tank properly!
Does your tank leak below 3/4 th's ?
Does your tank let off air when you open the tank ?
Hope this helps!!!
EDIT BTW the hose might look fine but pour some gas in till it just starts to leak to see where it's coming from !! Good Luck

Prone to gas leak also
My mechanic discovered on my 91 maxima a severe corrosion on the gas lines. everybody should check this out because gas lines & brakes lines has a cover guard in the middle side of the car (driver side) pls check by taking off the cover guard. Same with the recall, all salt and mud trapped into the cover...we discovered this because my brake line starts to leak. for your safety guys pls check it.

I had to replace the short rubber fuel tank vent line also. I used a piece of 5/8" diesel fuel line with screw type hose clamps. Avoid using heater hose, it will only last a couple of years. You can also get the hose from the dealer. The original hose seems to start leaking after 12-15 years.
