As I understand, there are 3 different Bose units in the 3rd generation Maxima. There's the 89 - 90 model, the 91 - 94 model, and this one (double DIN 3rd gen unit):

My question is, if I wanted to get the above (double DIN unit - similar to the 4th gens), would the wiring be a direct fit, or would I have to get an adapter. In the 92 SE, she has a receiver with a separate CD player hooked below (it looks like all one unit). The CD player is a Sony unit that came stock with the car. Will the above unit be compatible? I'm not likely going to get that, but was just wondering.

Would a 4th generation double DIN unit be compatible? Here's a picture of one of those:

Also, for those with the factory Sony CD player, what do you recommend for fixing it/replacing it? The one in the 92 just kept clicking (common problem I hear). Is it best just to have sent in for the $75, or is there something else that is compatible? Thanks.

Factory Service Center

Bryan,

I had the same problem with CD. Having to listen to the same CD for weeks, if it will even stop clicking and play. They fixed that for about $80 or so. It is called Factory Service Center and it is in Dallas. They do all the factory work for the Nissan dealships in the metro area. The dealership marks up there work about 200% . But if you go straight to them you can get a good deal. This is what they basically charged me:

$95 for front amp and speaker rebuilt w/exchange

$90 for rear amp rebuilt w/exchange

$40 for rear speaker cone

Cones hardly ever go out, especially fronts. If you speaker is crackling, low, or out completely it's probably the amp.

They also fix the short in the head unit volume control for about $30 or so.

Well, fellas, let me tell ya. I am the victim ov the JVC curse. I bought an El Kameleon CD player that day they hit the market. They looked sweet as hell but the problem was that once I put a CD in there and the mechanism that ejects it would not do so. It would not let me change to the radio and it kept repeating the same track. Then one day it just started turning the volume up full blast. I would turn it back down and it would keep going. There was no mute or pause on the friggin thing. I ended up rippin that ***** out of the dash and selling it to someone I didn't like that much. That is the most annoying POS I have ever had to deal with.
