This maxima that I bought about a month or so... I loved it, Its excellent mechanically. But it has so many little itty bitty problems that can really **** you off...

1 - TRUNK : Does not open. Key does not turn in the keyhole, alarm remote makes it click, so does the door button, but it still will not open.

2 - BOSE : OMG, I cant get to the rear speakers due to my trunk issue but my two rear speakers seem to be ripped or dying. It sounds pretty damn good considering that I have an amplification issue in the way (Sony HU VS Bose Speakers)...

3 - SUNROOF : Does not slide back, Only opens UP

4 - ALARM/BATTERY : For some reason, overnight most times, my alarm would go off and in the morning the car would not ignite. I would have to jump the car. I changed the battery yesterday but I dont know yet.

5 - FUEL INJECTION : I have two bad fuel injectors. According to Mid City Nissan, they can do some recall work for free which will replace 30 parts, including the FI's.

6 - POWER STEERING : Bad pressure hose, leaks all of my fluid out.

Can anyone motivate a little me as to how i can solve these at all... ?

hehe

for the trunk problem go down to the local fire dept., they have nice power saws that im sure they wouldnt min using on your car...j/k about the trunk i cant help you..my keyless entry works when i press the button buy the key doesnt work which is a common problem on the 3rd gen's...as for the radio and speakers once you get the trunk open then you can check out the speakers and if not put in new ones for about $80-$100...sunroof could be a bad motor or something getting stuck...so i would get that checked out..im sure this reply didnt do anythign but im out of school and bored..so hope everythign works out for you...

Well, I hate to hear people not liking their new car purchase but....

Some of these issues should have been taken care of at the time of purchase. (only one month ago) I thourogh inspection by you + having a mechanic check the engine would have revealed all of these problems

But just tackle them one at a time. In no time, the car will be just fine.

Forgive my ignorance of 3rd gens, but does the rear seat flip down, or do you have a ski pass through hole at least? If you do you can at least look into the trnk to see if thre is something stuck in the mechanism, or if the whole seat folds down, you can kinda fix the problem from the inside. Secondly, did you get a really good deal on this car? Thta is alor wrong for a car that you purchased 1 month ago.

What recall work? And replace 30 parts for free? Are you sure they said FREE?

And exactly what parts are included in the recall?

the 3rd gen has neither; stock- there is no opening into the trunk and the seats dont fold down

also, as for your trunk, if it's clikcing when you try to open it, it's probably the lever inside the trunk has been switch so that the opener does not work
search for some other posts about this; I know I posted a pic in one that shows the lever
to get to it, you will have to take out the rear seat and sneak into the trunk that way (instructions for that can be found by searching too)

Hey man dont worry, ur not the only one. When I just bought my car i had to fix:
1)timing belt
2)water pump
3)new power steering pump and hoses
4)alarm
5)bose radio didnt work
6)changed my exhaust from Y to muffler
7)brakes
8) AC didnt work
9) tune up
10) bad clutch

But after you get all that fixed and redone and some more and some more and more headaches, ull be the happiest maxima owner, oh **** I forgot to mention i chnaged my suspension because my struts were dead and my spring broke off in two. BUt other then that my car had no problems what so ever, except like small things that can be fixed under $20 $30 bucks.

Trunk problem

Often on older cars, the keys begin to wear down. This happened to me. The "shoulders" on my key which used to be squared off are now sort of round. This allows the key to go too far into the lock mechanism which will prevent you from turning the lock. My best advice before you take your back seat out to get to the mechanism from the inside, is to try inserting your key at different depths into the lock (this is starting to sound kinky). If that doesn't work, I would get a new key made.

Also, on your sunroof problem, make sure your tracks are greased up. That probably won't solve your problem, but it will help prevent more bad stuff happening to your new motor (if you need one).

One more thing: If you have the built in security system and your alarm goes off, you need to use your key in the driver door and unlock the car to disarm the alarm. I found that out the hard way one night in the parking lot of a club with a bunch of chicks looking at me like I was crazy with my horn and lights blaring for 10 minutes before I read the manual and figured it out.

I know dudes I feel you. I got locked out before class and had to call the campus 5-0 to unlock it for me. He had hell of a time trying to unlock it and during that time funked up something inside...from then on I can't open the car from the drivers side because the ALARM goes f*****g off if it try to, I have to open it from the drivers side like a retard so it doesn't start goin off. I got the same trunk problem and I had both of my rear window rotors die which I had to replace 150 each. Anyone have any idea on how to fix the alarm thing or what he might have messed up in there? I had to sign a waiver if he fuked up something, bastard.

Peace

yeah. lots of little itty problems that really drive me mad. Like when I'm accelerating, there's this annoying loud ticking noise. The dealer said its the rear exhaust manifold. The funny thing is I had the front exhaust manifold fixed last year and that didn't seem to solve the problem and now they say its also the rear exhaust manifold and perhaps the entire manifold needs to be replaced. Also before, my engine used to idle at just 1000 RPM. Now it bounces all over the place between 800-1200 RPM. And also the rear spoiler is starting to lose its adhesiveness and the leather starting to get hard and the rear seat on one side popped out of its holder and part of the dash in front of the defroster vents is now sticking up and there's a little ribbon type thing sticking out above the clock and the right passenger side window, something's sticking up. JUST MANY MANY LITTLE #!)($!#($ ANNOYING THINGS THAT ALL ADD UP.

You should have thought of this before you bought the car. Why in the hell would you buy a car you know nothing about w/out inspecting it first??????

I just bought a 1990 SE Auto, My clock works occasionally, Front right amp in bose system doesn't work, Alarm light goes on but i can't set the alarm off, cruise control doesn't work, and lock in trunk doesn't work. I have only had the car for a week but i am sure I'll find more stuff wrong with it. But I still love it, even more then my 1987 SE which my friend totalled 3 weeks ago.

Save up and buy mine! It's definetly going on the block by next spring, maybe a lot sooner. I've had the tranny rebuilt (who, with an auto, hasn't?), replaced the water pump, CV joint boots, crankshaft oil seal and one power window regulator. It has 104K miles on it and I've had next to no recurring nuisance problems. Since the UDP was added it's quicker and runs smoother than it ever has. I'm still hoping to have some money land on my head so I can buy a 6sp 2002 without getting rid of this one.
I didn't forget that link I mentioned. I have to lighten up the new pix I have before I load them. Going to see if I can finnish them tonight.

My trunk did the same thing. My keyless entry wouldnt work either. I would hit it, but all I could hear was a click up front under the dash. I took it to a Carl Jarl locksmith. Took about 30mins and like $10 but it works great now. I even got a new key!

BTW - What kind of keyless entry does everyone have? Mines a Code Alarm.

Remove the piece of the dash under the steering wheel and pull the harness plug for the factory alarm out. Then, remove the fuse. Problem solved. Granted, you now have no alarm, but not many people feel like stealing an old Maxima.

I had enough fun putting it together. I'm not going to take it back apart to sell it. I'd probably trade it in before I sell it piecemeal. It's going in one piece (except for including the stock wheels and oem parts that came off of it) or it's not going at all.

I bought it in May of '96. It had 27K miles on it. Was turned back in off of a two year lease. It was bone stock, but practically still in the wrapper. I think their asking price was $16,500. Got a good trade-in for my old '87 Max SE that had 138K miles and sh*tty paint. I got $4K for my old one.
I'm sure I'll get blasted with all kinds of messages saying, "You'll never get that much" or "Book price is only this..." or "You're not going to get your money for the mods out of it" but I'm sure my initial asking price won't be much, if anything under $10K. I've put almost $8K into it since I've had it AFTER the price of the car. You guys are too well informed to sell it to anyone on here. It will probably go locally.

Dude...

I paid $3,500 for mine... Plus I'd end up spending about $6,000 on it that gives me already close to 10k.

If you sell at 10k... you have me as the buyer!

I'd keep it at least until after Nopi in September, but after that...? Do you have enough vacation time to come to PA? Better yet, come to Maxus in DC and see what you think.

Keep me as your #1 buyer...

I'm really really interested in it. I would definitely make some time to go see it and I can take a weekend to go get it with no prob. It would be a little difficult for me to score the cash around september but I reckon I can do it. Now... when is maxus?
