Strange buzzing from new exhaust

So I just got the GReddy exhaust put on with a shop-fabricated B pipe and new y pipe. The B pipe doesn't have a resonator. I noticed that when I rev the engine past 4500 rpm theres an ANNOYING buzzing noise comming from somewhere in the exhaust system when the rpm's die down. Does this indicate that the GReddy muffler I got was bad, or the y-pipe is bad? Luckily I caught this noise at the exhaust shop, so they said they'd take a look at it on Monday. Just wondering what the problem could be, if anyone has heard of this before, if it's because there's no resonator now, and how to stop this annoying noise! Thanks alot

My guess...The lack of a resonator is the source of the noise...

Or you have a exhaust leak somewhere...

I'd say lack of resonator.
the resonator is there to smooth out the exhaust note and kill the bees in a can efect you get with a muffler and no resonator

I'd say muffler or leak. As mine doesn't have this so called buzzing.

check it out for yourself http://www.gregg-henry.com/video/exhaust02.asf
full 2.5" piping with Ravin Muffler, no resonator

I actually went to your site when I was searching to forums to find if anyone else had this problem. You have alot of good videos and pictures! Thanks tho, the car's going back to the shop on Monday.

Here some shady s**t though, so I told the shop when I dropped the car off that I wanted a resonater, the stock cat, and the y-pipe put on. I give them regular business removing tires off the rims I buy and sell so they gave me a good deal. But when I took a look under the car, I notices some interesting stuff!!! First, they just welded the B-pipe to the Greddy flange, they didn't make a flange and bolt it up. Second...NO RESONATOR like I asked, third....and most importantly, NO CAT!!! It's totally missing!! So now I'm pissed, probably won't pass emmisions, and when I get in there on monday there's gonna be hell to pay. I can't believe this shady business.

Only 2 of those vids are mine. The rest are TripleGMax's, or ones he hosted for people.

Yeah, you have to watch businesses like that sometimes. I've got one that is kind of like that. He sales parts at cost, which is too close to some site's prices for my taste. But he gives me a decent deal on labor. No extra charges.

Like when I had him do my clutch, no labor charge for putting on new axles like most places would do as well.

It's likely the resonator. However, there is a chance it could be the gaskets somewhere. I had this problem and it was one of my o-ring gaskets on the y-pipe.

As for your shady business associates, I would definitely make them put a cat on -- it's illegal for them to install exhaust without proper emissions systems.

Alright well I figured out what a muffler bearing was. Thanks for the tips.....i guess? Well I had one other question. I took a look at the converter on monday and it was burnt up, so I didn't mind them not installing it, because then I wouldn't have known at all. So I bought the CatCO hi-flow converter but was wondering if I still should get a resonator. I priced one out from Carquest, and it's like $45 bucks. I looked at some cherry bombs, but thats not what I want becuase it'll just burn up too quick. Do you think I could use one of those cheap hi-flow cat/test pipes off of ebay for a resonator? They are both straight through design, both have a resonating chamber in them. Would it work? Because it's a lot better than spending $45.

dude... why waste the money. all the Maxima resonator is, is a bigger pipe. If you honestly think it's going to make that much of difference after replacing it in the first place, just have them weld a larger piece of tubing in the spot where it was originally located.

no its more that just a larger pipe. It is actually the regular pipe with a larger pipe around it and some holes in the smaller pipe for it to work.

A resonator does indeed make a difference...the problem is most that you buy are just glorified glass packs.

other way around, Glass Packs are glorified resonators.

Exactly, so thats why I was thinking something like this would work:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/00-03...03862501QQrdZ1

It has a resonating chamber it it. You can tell because one of the pics has the perfect angle to see the perforated inner pipe. If I'm correct, I think that there is just empty space between the outer pipe and the inner perforated pipe. This should work just like a resonator. Let me know if it would be a smart buy.

so will that work? Or should I just install the catco converter and leave the resonator off?

not sure about that cheap thing on ebay without seeing it first hand...it may be fine and just what you need.

this is what I bought. I have 2.5 exhaust though so you would need something different.

Why dont you just ask the muffler place what they have and how much it is...or did you do that already?

yeah I asked them already, they don't sell resonators. The B-pipe they installed is 2.5" though, so I think that would work for me too.
