In desperate need of troubleshooting advice!

Greetings folks,

I'm new here and shouting from Los Angeles, Ca
I have a 3rd gen 93 Max SE (VE30DE eng)

Experiencing extremely rough starts… engine turns over 30 to 50 times, then finally starts (but only with the throttle in the wide-open position)

Once started the engine sounds fine strong and healthy, but when I let off of the throttle it abruptly shuts down.

So far, I've done the troubleshooting and repairs myself and here's what I have replaced as of yesterday:

Fuel filter, spark plugs, thermostat and water pump… I've checked the ECU codes which only repeats 05 05, and also tried adjusting the crank sensor unit accordingly but to no avail. I've also checked the fuel pressure and its good. The starting problem still persists

Please advise as to what-where I should be checking or replacing.

Many-thanks,
Poppz-93Max

Pull the plugs, after parking a while, and check for raw gas. Could be a leaking seal or injector.

Hood Paint

The hood paint is the first to go because you're in TEXAS!!! Seriously, sun beats the heck out of paint, and engine heat attacks it from the other side. Is the inside of the hood still insulated with mouse fur liners? If not this could make the engine heat transfer worse.

If I had waxed the paint and took care of it and all will it still have went? And why FWD? So if reverse gear and first gear were the same ratio, I would accelerate faster in reverse? Is this a cheaper way to build cars? Is Nissan cheap??????????

I believe the only thing actually done cheaply on the Max is the exhaust manifold studs. Nissan isn't cheap till you get into the 05 and later years where they have all sorts of problems. I can't wait to see what the new transmission is going to do.

The FWD was a system designed to give more cabin room. Eliminating the hump for the drive shaft.

um 95 and up went cheaper.
nothing comparing build quality on my I30 vs my VE. VE wins.

Problems with brand new ones, compared to the 4th gen, I'd take a 4th over the new. Of course, I'll do it even one better and just keep my 3rd. Though I agree, the problems did start when Nissan started it's venture with Renault. You saw all the well built cars disappearing.
