3rd gen leather care?
3rd gen leather care?
Yes I know there is a detailing forum, but it doesn't get much traffic, and this is a 3rd gen question, as from what I understand, the leather in different gen maxima's, is umm, different.
My leather is in great shape, almost no wear, stains, marks scratches and certainly no tears. However it's not very soft and supple as leather should be. From what I understand about leather, there is both coated and non-coated. What kind of leather was used in the 3rd gen max?
Also, from what I've read, most car seats have leather only on the seating surfaces, and leather-like vynil on the rest.
SO my question is, what products/methods/techniques can I use to soften up my seats, and also keep them looking great?

check out Poorboys Leather Stuff, it works great
here's the link

Even more with the 3rd gen dash and door panels material Poorboys Natural Look is an awesome combination. It gives a brand spanking new and natural look (lol). (I personally cannot stand the really shiny/oily/fake look some brands give)
http://www.poorboysworld.com/natural-look.htm
You can also use the Natural Look on the leather and just pass on the Leather Stuff entirely. If you said you could only buy one I'd say get the Natural Stuff hands down even though the Leather Stuff would technically work better for the seats.

It does wonders for BMW's and seeing as the 3rd gens used Bimmer like quality materials (
)
honestly though, seeing as detailing stuff usually lasts a long time and to make it worth it to buy it online (shipping... spending $7 to ship a $15 bottle of stuff leaves a sour taste in my mouth) you add a bunch of stuff to your cart then figure it isn't worth it because it's farrrrr more than just going to the store and slapping down $10

This is basicly the same stuff, mine came in a red bottle.
I also use the Meguiars Leather wipe, as well as the spray-bottle version.
Our cars have only leather seating surfaces as per my new-car brochure, and when it's stiff like cardboard, it's usually because the years of sun have dried it out. I've tried to revive my seats with no luck, and I tried everything from repeated applications to drenching the leather with the spray bottle. No luck. Just use conditioner anyway, and at least it will look shiny and not fade out; the cardboard feel is permanent "damage."
