Say hello to my aussie max
Say hello to my aussie max
Thought you guys may like to see an aus spec "Ti" (as we call the top spec model here). I dont see myself selling this baby for a looong time (in fact, i'd rather keep it in the family until it dies, *if* it ever dies? :P).
Bit of history, been riding motorbikes all my life, I own a CBR 1000F currently, she's my bloodline. At 28 I grew a brain however, and it made sense to go and get myself four wheels (especially given these icy cold winters melbourne likes to dish up - mmmm climate control is my beeeestest fwend!). 1 yr later and there isnt a day I've regretted the decision to pick up a 1993 Maxima Ti (fully optioned, black leather interior yada yada). Car's done 157,000kms (we dont use miles here
).. full service logs.... one (very loving) owner .. still has the original "analogue" TELECOM car phone installed haha.. should probably yank it out some day but eh, it aint in the way of anything, sits neatly by the drivers seat.
Im amazed how well kept it is... theres lots of talk of failed interior backlights (for the air con etc.) in these cars, not ONE is out, they all work just like the day she rolled off the production line. The engine is SPOTLESS, i cant locate a spec of grit under the hood anywhere, and it runs as good as it looks. Driving along bumpy roads with the stereo off? i cant hear a single creak or grown from anywhere, its a solid as a brick ****house which really surprises me for a car of this age... in fact, i'll go so far as to say i cant pick a single gripe with the thing. Fan-bloody-tastic car.
Mods done since purchase?
1) Foggies added up front
1) Alpine splits in the front (tweeter set into the top section of the doors near the A piller, the tweeters are in to stay so this was the nicest 'factory' looking arrangement i could think of.
2) 400W RMS bridged 10" sub in the boot, leaves plenty of room for luggage.
3) DivX/XViD/JPEG/MP3/DVD slot load player
4) Seperate 7" widescreen LCD display (motorized eject/close) with TV tuner (two antennas mounted neatly out of view at the front and rear windows)
NB: I dont have closeup shots of them, but i made sure the head units for both the LCD and DVD player were black with silver buttons, they blend so well with the rest of the dash that you'd swear they were factory installed by Nissan.. this is exactly what I was aiming to achieve.
5) Satellite (GPS) Navigation
5) stacks of other interior 'touches' here and there.. too many to list.
6) I'm certain theres more exterior bits and what not, I cant keep track :P
A couple of piccies :-

I dont know if you guys have seen the shape of the Australian 6th gen (i believe its quite different to the rather sleek looking one you guys get), but whenever I see one on the road here i cringe... I think they look quite uninteresting in comparison to zee ole' 3rd gen.. no real character or defining features about them (with the exception of that HIDEOUS front end
) .... but eh, i think a lot of cars designed these days look quite fugly and lack distinct character... i think "bland" is the word, but i wont slag on newer technology, opinions are like arseholes, everyone has one yada yada.. i'll shut my mouth now 8)
/hugs his Max

That right there is just a very nice looking 3rd gen....the rear fogs and that Nissan badge make it look quite nice, is that the original paint job? (and I've always been intrigued by right drive cars (hope to get a chance to drive one one of these days))
I wonder where Logan91VE is? I haven't seen him post in a while.
I think he was from New Zealand and he had a 91 3rd gen with a VE engine.
I keep trying to figure out where all of these JDM VE engines came from, when it seems like no one in the Far East had a car with one!
Oh, buy a baby bottle brush to clean the gaps in the "sawblade" parts. It's much easier.

Here in New Zealand, all 3rd Gen Maximas sold new here had the VG30E engine. Only the JDM used imports that we got had either the VG30E or the VE30DE. JDM used imports were the NZ Governments way of trying to decrease the age of our car fleet on our roads, didnt work all that well because a few of the imports from the mid/late 80's are still on the road. The effect that they did have was that you can buy a new Maxima today for virtually the same price as in 1991. There must have been a heap of VE powered Maximas running around Japan at some stage. And NZ is still the only country in the world to have fold down rear seats in a 3rd Gen Maxima....lol
damn!!! ur 3rd gen looks very nice and clean and well maintained. i have always loved that color on our 3rd gens. i noticed that u have the emblem on the steering wheel. i have the same exact thing on mine. now clear out ur turn signals and reverse lights.
that is deffinatly the cleanist maxima i have ever seen and for how old it is i have to say "WOWZERS!" maroon to me is very udly for some reason your car just makes it look pretty the black leather = SCORE i have white lol its not easy to keep clean
AND its right sided driver... cept all cars over there are pretty much i like your maxima
awsome deal BTW

Very nice! Question tho - what is that cover over your rear headrests in the 6th & 9th picture?
I ask because my headrests get baked by the sun and a cover like that would be great. Is it factory or custom?

Believe it or not, that cover isnt leather, its vinyl.. i had some cut to size off a roll at a fabric store then i removed the rear seat and put some slits in the vinyl and pushed it over the two big clips that connect the top portion of the seat to the car (when you click it back in place). Of course none of that is seen because its tucked down in between the chassis and the back of the seat.
You guys didnt get keyless entry and body coloured mirrors on your 3rd gen max's ? I know the keyless entry wasnt standard here, but the body coloured mirrors were.

the SE didn't get either
Ya, my original black headrests had completely dried-out and were a light grey. I've since changed to a 4th gen seat, and I would like to prevent them from drying-out as well (without tinting the rear window). I'm going to do it a little differently, but thanks for the idea!
Very nice. You know this is a guy that enjoys his 3rd gen car. Just look at how he rolled up the center seat belt. It's something I'm sure we all do but honestly how many times have you seen other people do it for their cars?
Fold down rear seats in NZ? Why did everyone else get shafted on those?! No sedan should be without them.
Is this the Australian 6th Gen you mentioned? http://www.nissan.com.au/maxima/

Cheers folks!
A few more recent pics to tickle your fancy (with a noticable change - customised registration plates from vicroads. Turns out they offer a burgundy coloured slimline plate which is a VERY close match to my car
