Dashboard lights out

A couple of nights ago, I turned on my car and my dashboard lights went out, when I turned my headlights on and it seemed they were on at first and then they kind of faded off because when I looked again they were off. As well as the gearbox light was off. I tried to turn off my headlights and turn them back on, I even tried turning on and off the engine once or twice. Still no sign of working. The thing is my clock light is still on as well as the lights for the A/C display, and that little keyhole light that turns on at night. The dashboard slight (the whole speedometer, fuel, and temp display) is out as well as the gearbox where the shifter is, is also out as well. I was wondering if it is a fuse that blew out or something worse. Please help. Thanks in advance

Check your tail lights, too. If it's a fuse, they should be out as well. I had the same thing happen. The funny thing about what happened to my car was that one of the lights above the license plate had come loose and touched metal, which shorted things out and blew the fuse, which makes the dash lights, license plate lights and tail lights all go. I believe that a red one (10) will do the trick if that's the problem.

It's the stop lamp fuse that control's all said above and also the corner light's.

Well I just looked at my taillights earlier and they were out also. So that means a fuse is out right? How much does it cost to get it looked at and fixed?

Dude open up your fuse panel by your left leg and find the red 10 fuse that's listed as i think stop lamp and goto pep boys / autozone and buy 1 for shrug a dollar. If that doesn't fix the problem i belive sometimes the tail light might be melted which is causeing the problem or like JaMu0108 said check your license plate light and see if theirs a short.

Sorry for double post but I looked in the fuse panel and there are multiple "red 10" fuses and I dont know which one is causing the problem... a little help here?

get a $4 tested light and check all the fuses while you're there.. which ever fuse doesnt make the light come on; replace it with one of the same rating

It's in the middle on the left side if you look at the inside of the fuse panel should be a list of location's of the fuse's and their recommended amperage. Goto Wiking's page here and about 3/4 down http://www.cardomain.com/ride/748507/5. Start with tail lamp or stop lamp if not those just go down one at a time it'll be obvious which one is blown.

I looked in the fuse panel and there are multiple "red 10" fuses and I dont know which one is causing the problem

I have an 87 Maxima.
I installed a cd player and found that Im blowing the clearance fuse ( parking and tail lights as well as dsahboard)
I took the ground off the amp.. fuse blows
I took the remote off the amp .. fuse blows
I took the red (hot) wire for radio off harness .. fuse blows
I took the amp power off battery .. fuse blows.
I looked at all of the tail lights.. still good.
Any Ideas?

There is also a YELLOW wire that is your constant power, and the RED is power from your ignition

there may be an ORANGE wire in the factory radio harness that is for illumination, wich is integrated into your lighting, make sure this is not used as a power source.

where are you grounding stuff?

does it happen when you turn the radio on, or your lights on, or what?

Dash lights out taillights on 2004 Maxima

If I pull my taillight fuse under the hood my dash lights work but my tail lights won't. If it's in the taillights work but the dash lights don't. Help?

Maybe a dead bulb or short in the taillamp wiring? Check the tail light covers in the trunk area (the wiring and bulbs are all attached to them) some of the sockets/wiring melts and creates insane amounts of resistance/no contact. Its a long shot but it might be your issue. These sockets are a common issue on 3rd gens, once they're cooked, they're cooked. Easy peasy, pull back the carpet covers and bam, right there in front of your face. Take all the bulbs out one at a time, check them all, replace any that look wacky. If a bulb is stuck in the socket, you know its a problem socket and the bulb has welded itself into the socket, shorting out.

If the fuse blew right away when replacing it you probably have a dead short somewhere. Check for any wires on that circuit touching bare metal somewhere ie plate light wirering

Okay so I looked quickly at the plate wiring it looks okay.

Thought to my self maybe my led fogs... turned off checked with engine off did not blow fuse but once engine running the fuse blows. With fog circuit off amp/stereo off and heater blower off.

Still pursuing

If you have an FSM check the wiring diagram and see whats on that circuit that the fuse is popping on. Then you need to check that circuit and find the short. Im far from an electrical expert but it sounds liks there's a dead short somewhere on that circuit thats popping your fuse.

Yeah I have been trying to find the specific fsm but yet to have luck.

From what I can tell all connections are good and solid.

Does anyone know where the tail light ties into the ignition? Because I've come to the conclusion that everything is A ok other than when I hit the ignition that's when it blows the fuse runs fine until I go past ON. So I'm currently at that point.

Tried: brake and ascd cancel disconnected - blows
Plate light assembly disconnected (runs fine until ignition past on)
Replaced tail assemblies same as above
Checked / disconnect fogs and corners all good till past ON

Conclusions, beyond my pay grade. I hate electrical. And why you gotta be a ***** at the start of winter. Hahaha

Pretty sure I'll figure it out, right now my car looks stolen hahahah

Woah I feel dumb apparently I forgot to look at my multi lamps in the rear and 3 were just melted to all you know what.

I replaced the bulb assembly and that stopped my fuse blowing on the illumination however I am now facing a non working illumination circuit.

1 down 1 to go
