Sunroof shade problems. Help!

Whuddup, yo's! First thread, so I'd like to introduce mahself. I'm "Mike," and have bought a '90 Maxima with my fiancee' as her daily driver. After seeing how many miles you fellas have on yer cars, I feel even better about our decision. I'm glad to have found y'all, so I hope to continue a friendly relationship with all on this board. Thanks for bein' here!

Okay, the sunroof shade does not really open. I mean, it does, but I had to wrestle with it with both hands and almost all my bodyweight to get it to slide back, and even more so to get it closed back again. It looks to be off of the rail, and now I am curious to find out...How can I (most) easily get the thing back on its' track, or remove it to get a new one on there (if you suggest to) to eliminate this problem so that my girlie can slide her sunroof shade back and fourth with ease?

Thanks!

Hmm... I can't say I can offer much help on the sun shade issue, but welcome to the ORG!

I'm sure someone will get you a solution, someone always has a solution around here.

Remove the trim around the opening of the sunroof, then open the sunroof itself. If your lucky none of the little springs that ride in the rails are broke. From outside the car you can now see what you are doing, if it has slipped the track wiggle it back on. I had 2 of the spring leafs break on mine so I removed them all and it justs floats in the opening but at least it no longer gets stuck..good luck

And to clarify Governor's post a little, I did the same thing, but after I replaced the trim each time, the shade would pop back off the track. The shade had warped with age and combined with the thickness of the trim, it put too much pressure on the springs. I finally left the trim off the sunroof. It doesn't look bad and the shade slides like a hot knife over butter now.
