Help me a bit...

I have a lexus that has been sitting for 11 years. nothing was wrong with it when I left it. Can anyone help me get it running again?

Now for a maxima question.

My brother has a 1995 or so altima, and it feels noticeably cheaper on the inside than my 1994 max. Can somebody dig up the MSRP's for both of these cars on their years?

Drain the old fuel, refill with new fuel, take the fuel line off before the injectors, cycle the key a few times to get the old fuel out of the lines..

A basic tune up[plugs/wires/yada yada]

Get a can of starting fluid, spray it in the intake before starting...

I agree with GreenMax. I'd also replace the battery and get the alternator checked.

I'd just jump in the lexus and try to start it.

but one thing that you should also do is pour a little trans fluid in each cylinder before cranking it. let it sit for 5-10 minutes before the crank to make sure it has loosened the rings up

Cool, thanks for the help guys.

Now how to I get rid of the god awful rat urine smell out that over powers the once uber-heavy leather scent?

I have the original window sticker from my Maxima: $24,450 before tax
Factory options: Sunroof, spoiler, tint, no ABS, no leather, Bose, A/C, heated power mirrors.

I think it was purchased in Dec. 93.

Wasn't the spoiler standard for the SE? or was it still considered an option?

Dude, I've seen '98 model year Saturn’s that feel WAY WAY cheaper on the inside then 3rd gen Maximas, even the 4th gens don’t feel this nice. Some cars are just made better, too bad it doesn’t always transfer to resale value. There are many more factors to include in resale value then just the build quality, like amount of cars on the road, demand for said cars, limited options, miles, etc...

btw the sticker for my 89 maxima VG5 with not extra options (std stuff: Power windows, locks, mirrors, sunroof, and at one time the antenna) was $18k with change.

-FYI- "What cost $18000 in 1989 would cost $28057.15 in 2005." Not too bad...

Hey I didnt pay that much, I bought it in August 2002 with 58K miles. As for the options, I just listed some of the things I saw on the paper but yes much of it was standard for the SE. Hey they listed the adjustable steering column as a feature, I also think the carpets were a feature

He was referring to the thread topic vs. your post.....It is about how to start a car that has been sitting for 11 yrs./not your window sticker..

sure, if you find one.
put some baking soda in the car. It will absorb the smell.

Yum.

So a new tank of gas,
new tires,
oil change,
coolant change,
PS fluid change,
Brake fluid change,
timing belt change,
new battery, should get it running?

Anyone add to this list.

You should squirt some tranny fluid down the sparkplug holes as InternetAutomar said. Then I would change the oil, charge the battery, and try to start it without doing anything else.

If it has a timing belt, I would replace that as soon as possible. And it would be time for coolant change.

Contrary to popular belief, fuel doesn't go bad. Only 2 things can happen to it, condensation buildup, and varnish from evaporating. Flushing the fuel system can help 1, but will do nothing for 2. If you can get it started, the fuel is fine. Tires replaced only if they show signs of dry rot. Brake and PS fluid changes are not usually mfg recommended.

If the smell really is rat ****, go to PetCo or a vet and get the stuff in the aerosol can for animal accidents. It has enzymes specifically designed to break down the stinky stuff in animal ****/poop/yack. Its very "chemically" smelling, but it generally dissipates within a day.

If the leather is stinky now too, test the aerosol stuff in a small place first. It might discolor or dry leather out. If that is a no-go, I would go buy some leather cleaner/conditioner and scrub it down. Hopefully that will kill the smell.

Pull the carpet out, take the padding off, pour laundry detergent on it and use a pressure washer and scrubber to clean it.

It got cat poop and urine out of my carpet (stupid cat had babies in my car when I had it sitting up).

If you've subscribed to the thread, which is usually done by default when you post, you can go to User CP and view your subscribed threads.

About your original question no. 2: According to the window sticker for my car, it listed for $22,940, no options. I'd guess that the 94 would list for roughly the same, or slightly higher.

Progress!

I cleaned out the interior, but later I will need leather wipes, and carpet cleaner.

Well I actually just vacuumed the pertrified mouse **** in there.

On the other hand there are some wires chewed up by rats

(See first pic, in highlighted area, are these fuel injector wires?)

Second pic, HTF so I read this stick? is there too much fluid?

On another note, I opened the gas cap, for 10 year old gas it sure smelt strong and fresh, even with a whoosh upon opening.

Yes them are the fuel injector wires:eek3:[i see this as your main issue with getting the car running again] I would try to find a junkyard lexus and cut the injector plugs and enough wire to splice them into the main engine harness....

I would still get that old gas out of there...

Grab the plug wires with a pair of channel lock pliers, and yank-n-twist at the same time...

Ok cool, because the wires are OE, with 1989 stamped on them.

how do I drain the fuel tank? I cannot join the lexus forums because there is that stupid pointless admin-approved registration.

And....are oil filters universal? I just drained the oil, which looked like very thick bubbly soy sauce.

1. you drain the fuel tank by taking it down and opening the tank (usually through a sending unit opening) and siphoning out the gas.
you may be able to siphon through the filler neck, but not likely.

2. Oil filters are not universal, different cars take different filters.
