.........when you had it installed, did your car feel a little faster? being that the engine installed has 200K miles less than the original?

if I installed a VE with 200K less than my current one, I'd be having no motor at all, just raw metal.

but to the serious side. it should feel more powerful as the wear is less assuming the lower mileage one was maintained.
of course the lower mileage one could just have more carbon build up on the pistons for a higher CR.

200k less?? JDM motors usually have 40-60k on them..so does your current VE have 250k+ on it?? Usually you will feel a little more power with the new motor like he^^ said, if it is better condition than your (most likely it will be, especially since u have a blown head gasket..)

But if I were you, I would make sure I check out the JDM VE being installed. Read Jeff's long thread about his JDM motor issues..

Also, are you going to be installing the motor yourself?

I had a JDM installed. In fact, Jeff did all of the work. There are some minor differences in USDM vs. JDM, but nothing serious. The key is to replace and repair stuff on the JDM while you have it out of the car.

The old engine had about 150k on it. The newer one is stronger, but not by much.

I think a lot of that could be that I had some broken manifold studs (slight leaks, but it never made the "ticking" sound) and all of the ones on the JDM were replaced with turbo studs.

i did a bunch of bolt ons at the same time so its hard to say, I can say that the car cranked over much easier and the heat got warm as few seconds after you turned on the car in the winter.

well i wont be installing the motor myself. and i was kinda exagerating when i said 200K miles. my motor right now has 169K. i was just wondering if i would be able to tell a difference in performance when the engine they install will have around 40-45k on the clock. so far from what i'm reading, i guess i will.

If your engine original engine was taken care of (regular oil changes) and you either fixed the manifold studs or don't have any broken ones, the difference will probably only be marginal. I doubt even enough to tell except on a dyno.

Why are you wanting to put in a JDM with 169k? Is there something wrong with your engine?

I replaced the 107K defective motor in my 93VE5 about 2-3 mnths ago due to a broken VTC. I purchased a USDM engine with about 140K from an automatic 93SE. The compression on the engine is 180-181 for ALL 6 cylinders and the car started and ran on 3 cyclinders. The internals of the engine are very very clean, no sludge and I just rebuilt the VTC's. The car was owned by 1 person for the first 120K and they were all out of state mileage.

Additionally I installed a brand new Fidanza Flywheel and a Spec. Stage 2 clutch and though the cluth hasnt been broken in as yet, the car pulls like there is no tomorrow. It can "chirp, bunn tahyahs" effortlessly in 1st and 2nd gears even with excellent condition Nitto extreme performace tires.

I cant say how powerful the original engine was since I bought the car with a defective motor.

have you gotten a price qoute for the new engine w/installation from your mechanic..you must also change the water pump on those JDM's..
there are also a few other things you should change, manifold studs, etc. look at jeff's post.
