Does anyone know how to remove the needles from the 89-91 GXE guage cluster???
I tried to pull off from the top, and the black cap is the only piece that came off. I tried to remove assembly that has pin that needle connects to, but no luck there either. Any suggestions?

I read somewhere in here before that you can twist them counterclockwise and pull up at the same time. I am not sure who posted that, but I believe it was ngthing. Ask him, he'll help you out.

ahh, yes...

been there, done that, meshed 'em up...
finally did it right and just got my hands on some SE guages and everything went good from there.

I have heard of people successfully pulling out the needles, and I only messed up one of the four switching mine out the first time, but one is enough. I got my SE guages for like $50 at the bone yard. And is accurate within 1 mph and 50 rpm.

Issac,
Sorry to hear that you messed it up, but the question remains, how did you remove it???

From what I remember, use a spoon and pry up, between the guage face and the clear plastic neddle base, while turning counter-clockwise. It is supposed to work, but obviously didn't so well for me. I wish you luck!

Just curious, what is your reason for taking off the needles? Is it for ngthings overlays, or what? They do look nice, but I prefered the style of lettering on the SE guages anyways.

Ahh... Ancient Chinese secret... Actually I'm customizing my SE guage cluster... Thanks for the info. Counter-clockwise and pry huh?

What happened that you broke yours?

I guess I didn't turns them enough why prying up. The metal pin came up along with the clear plastic base. Once the pin comes up, there is no way to re-seat it and work correctly. Trust me, I tried many times, many hours.

Soooooo... are you putting a logo or graphic on the guage faces? coloring the needles?

You guessed it...

Actually, I'm trying to color the needles, is there an easier way? Please let me know... I'm really interested.

I tried to color my needles a really bright blue when I was doing the overlay thing. It didn't work with the GXE needles: there is the orange paint, then white over it. I used fingernail polish remover to get rid of the orange/white, and it didn't look too bad. It just wasn't bright enough to see at night; very dim.

But, since you are starting with SE needles, it might just work, and look good at night too. When you are done, post a night pic.

Once again, good luck. I had less headaches doing all four struts than working with those needles, and the pins coming out and all.

Isaacm,
You were right! I was able to pull all of the needles by turning counter-clockwise and pulling at the same time. I really only had trouble with one (temp. I believe), anyway the trick now will be to swap out the needles and get everything to align and work properly again. I will let you know how it goes. I will try to post some pics when I'm done, but the dash should end up looking similar to this:
