I recently purchased from Warp Speed Performance an aluminized y-pipe, cat, and cat-back system with a 12 inch resonator and dual tip muffler. First, the important part: my 1989 5-speed SE (with 192K miles) gained 11 WHP and 11.5 ft-lbs at peak output. That's about a 10% increase at the wheels for my car. If you are interested in the dyno results, check the scanned images at http://www.xecu.net/billc1/Maxima/.

The improved power is readily apparent on the road, making a very nice performance upgrade.

The pieces fit well and are of high quality. The exhaust is huge 2-1/2 inch mandrel bent pipe that should flow very freely. My mechanic was very complmentary of the fit and materials, as well as the improved performance.

However, IMHO the exhaust system is quite noisy. Without the resonator, it is very blatty at low RPM. With the resonator, it is a little quieter, but still boomy below 2500 RPM, and it burbles at idle. Above 2500 RPM on the highway, you can feel the sound energy diminish and, as the road noise increases, the exhaust noise becomes acceptable. Unfortunately, if you are driving around at 30-45 MPH, you will be between 1500-2500 RPM, and, after a while, the noise becomes very oppressive.

Dallas is working with me to reduce the noise. The first thing that he suggested is a longer resonator with a baffle. I hope that it quiets down. The wife is not amused.

That is why I got the Greddy! No noise!!! yes, I have the resonator, so that helps, but... I don't want tickets!!!

Greddy has 2.5" piping all around as well!

Nice results, did I mention that I hate all you 5-speed people. That damn auto trans takes so much power. Dallas and I should be dynoing the new non-mandrel bent pipes in a couple of weeks.

If you are talking about noise inside the car, I think it's the design of the car. All exhausts that I have heard on a max have resonated inside the car below 2500RPM. My sh!tty *** custom exhaust does it real bad and I still have the stock Y-pipe. It's pretty quiet outside the car though.
