Buzzing from DRL module

Ok, this is a strange one... I have an intermittent buzzing from my DRL module, it sounds like the relays clicking really really fast. I suspected it may be a loose/partly broken wire somewhere, but I decided to replace the module anyway (new from the dealer cost me $130). So I put that one in, and low and behold, the same intermittent buzzing (really loud and annoying) is still there. I checked the voltages at the DRL module, and it seems ok, except while it's buzzing, the voltages drop. So I suspect somewhere there is an open/shorting wire that might be touching something intermittently and that's causing it. Anyone experience anything similar, or fixed a similar problem? Anyone know which wires to start with?

Ok, I think I finally found it. After having tested all the functional components of the DRL module, I have isolated it to the input wire from the combination switch (turn signal etc.). It looks like it's the combination switch itself. I have read that the contacts in the switch can become worn and "flutter", most likely causing this problem. I will have to take off my steering wheel (not looking forward to that) and check/fix/replace the switch to confirm, but since I disconnected the input wire to the DRL, no more buzzing!

I'll post again after I confirm for sure.

Ok, it's confirmed. This one was a really annoying one to find, so I hope this helps anyone in the future who has this problem... It was in fact the combination switch (turn signal etc). Picked up a new one from the dealer ($80 - not too bad), and the problem is fixed!

i'm surprised you didn't just hit up a junk yard. that's a pretty spendy when you think about it. used parts would have worked just the same.. good you got it fixed either way.

Yeah, considered that, but apparently the switches have little "fingers" in them that wear out over time. I also thought about taking it apart and trying to clean it... The wrecker wanted $50 bucks for it, so it just made sense to spend the couple of bucks to get the peace of mind of buying this one new.

The cool thing is, I've done alot of work to this car, and this was the last (knock on wood) "issue" I had remaining to be fixed, so I'm quite happy to just be enjoying the max now for a while.

congrats, i'm sure it's satisfying. just yesterday i got around to replacing the 2 bad rear injectors on my canadian max but unfortunately that's not all the work that needs done. i don't know if it was because it was up there in canada for part of its life or driven at the coast, or both, but some parts in the engine bay are corroded and weathered (starter, some bolts, canisters, ect), vtcs are loud before warming up, input shaft bearing is on its way out, dash lights flicker on and off (alternator wiring i guess), so i have some work cut out. at least it's not a 4 banger anymore it's not insured right now so i haven't even taken her for a test drive, but i'll be switching my policy over pretty soon and store my vg as a backup. good luck with your car. hopefully the problems stay away for awhile.
