Crank Pulley bent or "unbalanced?"

Ok, heres the deal. I have a 92 GXE with 130K well maintained and clean, most if not all services very up to date. I was looking at the engine while it was running the other day, noticed that the crank pulley seems to vibrate or be off balance. it is visible that it is not rotating completely "true" if that makes any sense. I have heard of troubles with crank shafts breaking on these engines and am a little concerned, it the pulley likely lose, bent or is the crank shaft bent?? i know you cant tell for sure, but any advice would be appreciated :-) on a totally unrelated note.. when coasting, typically downhill at about 45-50 MPH the idle bounces from about 1000-1500 RPM, would love ideas on that as well :-)

My pulley bounces like that too. I don't know much about them. But I noticed there is a rubber dampering piece in them. But to check if you crank is bent. You need to remove the pulley and put a gauqe on the crank.

Yeah, mine is so bad that it (I pretty sure, that is) grinds against the engine block when the engine rews down with no throttle input.

I was told that the seal where the pulley attaches is bad and is letting this thing wobble. However any input would be helpful from the other members...

well the seal isnt letting it wobble. All the seal does is run on the crank to keep the oil inside the motor...there is no support feature to it.

More than likely the pulley is messed up from over tightening the belts or from the rubber getting messed up. I have heard of crank snouts breaking on VGs though so the crank itself could be bent.

Find a good VG pulley and go from there...maybe take the pulley off and have someone crank the motor over while you watch the crank snout. IF you do that you need to be sure and take the coil wire off as well as the fuel pump fuse so the car doesnt crank while you are turning it over.

***EDIT*** after thinking about it all you have to do is watch the bolt while its running or while cranking it. That way you dont have to take the pulley off. The bolt that holds the pulley on goes straight to the crank so if its wobbling then you have a bent crank snout.

ok, I will check it visually first by looking at the bolt. In a worse case scenario lets say the crank is bent... what are the options for repair or replacement?? im hoping its just the pulley but who knows... its really not that bad, barely able to see it wobble so its nowhere near what 89blackse has.. I'm just overly particular lol... I even run fully synthetic oil in my 130K max lol..

Yeah, what all needs to be replaced/fixed. Mine is so bad its starting to shred the A/C Belt (2nd one in 6 months) again, and its losing oil (not much mind you) through that seal.

ok, hmm... took off the lil rubber flap thing, turned the wheel so I could see it as best as possible.. it definitely seems the bolt in the center is wobbling significantly.. actaully looks worse from this perspective than looking at the vibration from above. I'd be very curious about fixing this before it breaks, provided it is bent.. is this something that can be repaired/remachined or will it be a striaght out replacement process for this crank? Again I have a 92GXE with a VG Auto. 130,000 miles
