Steering issue - control arm bushes?
Steering issue - control arm bushes?
Hey folks,
My max has had an issue for quite some time with the steering side of things.... no noises or anything, and i know the cv joints are hunky dorey as theres no clacking or anything going on at full lock (fwd or reverse) ...
BUT, lets say i take a u-turn at full lock to the right.... when i straighten up on the road again the steering wheel is tilted to the right by a fair whack..... and the only way to make it straight again is by taking a reasonably tight left hand turn at low speed.. then shes pretty much spot on when you're going straight once again (although usually a tad to the left then :S)
Same applies when you take a left hand turn, although not quite tilted as much to the left when you straighten up afterward, as opposed to when you do a hard right...
I've been told by someone in the family it could be worn "control arm bushes" .... would that be the most likely culprit?

I'm not a mechanic although I have changed my control arms...I dont see how that would have to do with the steering realigning itself by making a u turn. I'd probably have to say something related to the Rack & Pinion/tie rods, thats just what I would assume or get professionally inspected. I'd like to see what some of the more experienced guys here have to say.
worn steering rack insulators?
look down from the firewall you should see the steering rack mounted to the body...if the rubber bushings mounts are worn it will allow the entire rack to shift.
i'm assuming that normal driving is ok...just hard turns.
